A 10-year-old foster child died after his 340-pound foster mother sat on him for five minutes as punishment for “acting up,” according to police reports.

Jennifer Wilson is now facing criminal charges that could result in a six-year prison sentence if she is convicted.

Dakota Stevens, weighing just 91 pounds, had reportedly run away from Wilson’s Berrien County home earlier that day.

After retrieving him from a neighbor’s house, Wilson told police the boy was misbehaving and threw himself on the front lawn.

Wilson then sat on the child while attempting to call his caseworker, according to court documents.

Ring camera footage recovered by authorities reportedly captured a 20-second clip of Wilson sitting on Dakota’s head and neck while his screams gradually diminished.

Wilson later told investigators she believed Dakota was pretending to be hurt until she rolled him over and noticed his eyelids had turned pale.

Court affidavits describe Wilson as “visibly distraught” when police arrived at the scene to find the boy motionless and without a pulse, per documents.

Dakota was airlifted to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. He was removed from life support two days after the incident, just one month after being placed in Wilson’s care.

The footage reportedly shows Wilson’s panicked reaction once she realized what had happened. She can be heard instructing one of her other foster children to call 911 and repeatedly calling Dakota’s name after noticing he had stopped breathing.

At the time of the incident, Wilson was fostering three other children in her home.

A Department of Child Services spokesperson confirmed to Express US that her foster parent license has been suspended and is under review for permanent revocation.

Wilson’s court-appointed attorney has not made public statements regarding the case. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for next week, where she will have the opportunity to enter a plea to the charges against her.

In other foster care news from last year, a Christian couple took Washington state to court alleging discrimination in the denial of their foster care license renewal.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) spearheaded the federal lawsuit filed on March 25, accusing Washington officials at the Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) of bias against the couple due to their religious beliefs regarding gender ideology.

The crux of the lawsuit revolved around the couple’s assertion that the DCYF denied their license renewal application based on their refusal to adhere to certain aspects of gender ideology, Resist the Mainstream previously reported.

The couple specifically claimed they were unwilling to use pronouns based on perceived gender identity rather than biological sex for foster children. They also argued that the agency mandated parents to take children to cultural events, such as pride parades, which clashed with their Christian convictions.
