President Trump told reporters he doesnโt expect Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, to the U.S. Senate.
Trump nominated Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) as secretary of state in his administration, which would leave a vacant U.S. Senate seat in Florida.
Rumors have circulated that Lara Trump could get the nod from DeSantis, especially after she stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
โNo, I donโt [expect her to be appointed],โ President Trump responded when a reporter asked about the potential appointment.
โI probably donโt, but I donโt know. Ronโs doing a good job. That is his choice. Nothing to do with me,โ he added.

Per USA TODAY:
Lara Trump also told the Associated Press that filling Rubioโs seat is something she would โseriously consider.โ
โIf Iโm being completely transparent, I donโt know exactly what that would look like,โ Lara Trump told the wire service. โAnd I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something thatโs real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.โ
Rubio, a three-term senator, appears to be on track for his colleagues to confirm his appointment to be the nationโs top diplomat running the State Department. DeSantis posted last month on X that heโd be conducting โextensive vetting and candidate interviewsโ on Rubioโs replacement and โlikelyโ would make his selection by the beginning of January.
โFlorida deserves a Senator who will help President Trump deliver on his election mandate, be strong on immigration and border security, take on the entrenched bureaucracy and administrative state, reverse the nationโs fiscal decline, be animated by conservative principles, and has a proven record of results,โ DeSantis said.
Senator Marco Rubio is expected to resign from the Senate to assume duties as Secretary of State when the Trump administration takes power on January 20th, creating a vacancy roughly two months from today.

From the Miami Herald:
The Florida governor has already begun vetting potential Senate appointees, and has said that heโll likely make a decision on Rubioโs replacement by early January.
Several high-profile Florida Republicans have been floated as potential candidates for the Senate seat, including DeSantisโ Chief of Staff James Uthmeier, state Attorney General Ashley Moody and Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nรบรฑez.
Trump is also said to be considering nominating DeSantis for defense secretary if his current pick for the job, Fox News host Pete Hegseth, isnโt able to win confirmation in the Senate. Itโs unclear if that possibility could influence whom DeSantis chooses for Rubioโs seat.
Trump has publicly expressed support for Hegseth, who has said that he does not intend to withdraw from the defense secretary nomination.
Speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach on Monday, Trump heaped praise on his daughter-in-law, saying that she had done an โunbelievable jobโ as the RNCโs co-chair. But he also said that the decision on who will replace Rubio in the Senate was DeSantisโ alone.
