Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy plans to run for governor in Ohio, The Washington Post reports.
A source familiar with the matter told the outlet that the former biotech entrepreneur intends to announce his gubernatorial bid “shortly.”
“Vivek’s base plan remains [the] same: to get accomplishments at DOGE and then announce a run for governor shortly,” the source told The Washington Post.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, is term-limited and leaves office in January 2027.
DeWine reportedly considered appointing Ramaswamy for Ohio’s vacant U.S. Senate seat but chose Lt. Gov. Jon Husted for the role.
It is my honor to accept the appointment to serve in the U.S. Senate.

The Washington Post reports:
A person inside Ramaswamy’s political apparatus who spoke to Ramaswamy this week said that Ramaswamy said he plans to run to replace Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R), who is term limited. “The statement is drafted. It is ready,” the person said Ramaswamy told them. Ramaswamy plans to announce his selection after DeWine announces his pick to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the Senate, the person said.
A representative for Ramaswamy did not respond to a request for comment.
Trump has said DOGE’s work must be completed by “no later” than July 4, 2026” — prior to the Ohio gubernatorial election in November 2026.
DeWine has called a news conference for 1 p.m. Eastern time at the Ohio Statehouse, amid speculation that he’s close to announcing his appointment for the Senate seat. Vance resigned from the Senate last week, and DeWine is expected to select Lt. Gov. Jon Husted for the role.
Ramaswamy ran for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination but dropped out last January and endorsed Donald Trump. In November Trump announced he was appointing Ramaswamy and billionaire Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or “DOGE,” a new commission on cutting government spending and regulation.
President Trump reportedly encouraged Ramaswamy to accept the vacant U.S. Senate seat if DeWine offered it to him.
Ramaswamy is a Cincinnati native and lives in the Columbus area.

From The Hill:
Ramaswamy is a biotech entrepreneur and former White House contender who, even as he challenged Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024, has long been an ally of the president-elect. He was floated in talk of who could join Trump’s ticket and has called Trump “the best president of the 21st century.”
Trump tapped Ramaswamy and fellow tech mogul Elon Musk to lead DOGE, an advisory group focused on cutting federal spending. Trump has indicated that DOGE’s work should wrap up in mid-2026, which could be just in time for Ramaswamy to make a potential run.
A second source close to Ramaswamy noted the run would only come after achieving some wins in DOGE for the president and the American people.
