New details emerged from the horrific crash where an illegal migrant made a reckless, illegal maneuver while driving a semi-truck on the Florida Turnpike.

Officials identified the three victims as Haitian immigrants.

“The driver Herby Dufresne, 30, and passengers Faniola Joseph, 27, and Rodrigue Dor, 53, all Haitian immigrants, were in their minivan when it plowed into the side of an 18-wheeler driven by Harjinder Singh, an immigrant from India, on Aug. 12,” the New York Post reports.

More from the New York Post:

Dufresne arrived in Miami in December 2023 from Port-au-Prince and was given a two-year permit to live and work in the US after obtaining a financial sponsor under a Biden-era program, the outlet reported, citing a friend of the victim.

No information was provided on Joseph and Dor’s arrival or immigration status other than that they previously lived in Florida, the Miami Herald reported.

The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to a request for comment.

At the time of the fatal accident, all three men were on the way to Indiana, where Dor relocated after failing to secure work in Miami, a friend told the outlet.

Footage from the driver’s side of Singh’s truck showed him making a wide U-turn on the Florida Turnpike — with the minivan plowing into its side and wedging itself partially underneath the tow bed. The 28-year-old barely reacts to the visibly devastating crash, video showed.

Singh, an illegal migrant from India who illegally entered California in 2018, received a commercial driver’s license.

According to prior reports, Singh failed English fluency and road sign tests following the deadly crash.

“Harjinder Singh, an illegal alien from India who killed three innocent people, FAILED an English Language Proficiency assessment. Singh provided correct responses to just 2 of 12 verbal questions and only accurately identifying 1 of 4 highway traffic signs,” the Department of Homeland Security previously said.

“And yet, Gavin Newsom’s sanctuary California gave this illegal alien who cannot speak English a Commercial Drivers License to drive an 18-wheeler. DHS will work with @USDOT to root out and prevent illegal aliens from obtaining these licenses from sanctuary jurisdictions that put American drivers and passengers in danger,” it added.

CBS News provided further info:

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said Singh, who was driving a 2024 International semi-truck, attempted a U-turn in an area marked for “official use only,” crossing multiple lanes into the path of a northbound Chrysler Town & Country minivan. The minivan struck the truck’s trailer and became wedged underneath.

Joseph and Dor were pronounced dead at the scene. Dufresne was airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital and later died from his injuries.

Singh is facing vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has seized on the crash to press his immigration agenda, criticizing California for issuing Singh a license.

“I think what they’re at least able to do, though, is ensure that the drivers coming through are able to read and understand English,” DeSantis said.

Since the accident, DeSantis has directed several truck inspection sites in Florida to operate as immigration checkpoints and has vowed that the state will not recognize licenses issued to undocumented immigrants.
