The United States Department of State has urged all U.S. citizens to leave more than a dozen countries across the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict in the region.
This also follows a late February announcement by the State Department that authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and their families from Israel.
Assistant Secretary Mora Namdar of the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, an Iranian-American, posted a warning to X on Monday, citing “serious safety risks.”
According to Namdar, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is urging “Americans to DEPART NOW from the countries below using available commercial transportation, due to serious safety risks.”
The list of 14 countries Americans should flee from immediately is:
- Bahrain
- Egypt
- Iran
- Iraq
- Israel, the West Bank and Gaza
- Jordan
- Kuwait
- Lebanon
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- Syria
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
- Yemen
However, the new guidance comes as a number of major airlines have already canceled flights entering and departing the area amid the turmoil that began on Saturday — when the U.S. and Israel commenced Operation Epic Fury, which killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with numerous leaders of his regime.
The ongoing operation now enters its fourth day, on Tuesday, as the U.S. and Israel aims to continue destroying “[Iran’s] missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground,” which President Donald Trump outlined on Saturday.
Tehran and its proxy forces retaliated over the weekend, hurling missiles and drone strikes at U.S. military facilities across the Middle East in countries including Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE, as well as the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Oman, once the primary mediator hosting indirect nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran, has now become a target itself. Iranian drone strikes recently hit a fuel tank at the Duqm commercial port and several oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz.
Including the ballistic missile strikes on Israeli civilian areas and a synagogue, Iran has now targeted nine neighboring countries in retaliation for the joint U.S.-Israeli operation. Eleven people have been killed in Israel and six U.S. fatalities have been confirmed as of Tuesday at 10:33 a.m. PT.
