We have some tragic news to report.

An ISIS attack in Syria has killed two U.S. soldiers and one civilian interpreter.

A lone gunman ambushed the American soldiers in the town of Palmyra.

In addition to the multiple deaths, three were wounded.

After the attack, reinforcements began to flood into the area — including fighter jets and helicopters.

Here’s some footage from the scene:

U.S. SOLDIERS KILLED IN SYRIA, AND NOW PALMYRA’S A WARZONE AGAIN

Official U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and Pentagon statements confirm 2 U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian (interpreter/contractor) was killed, plus 3 U.S. personnel wounded in an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman near Palmyra during a joint patrol with Syrian forces.

Now, American reinforcements are pouring into the area, backed by helicopters and fighter jets, as the Pentagon gears up for what looks like a full-scale military operation to clear the area.

Syrian army forces in the Al-Tanf area, which had been acting as agents for the Americans, appear to be excluded from this operation, as their role is limited to escorting convoys and deploying to close roads only.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell states on X:

“Their mission was in support of on-going counter-ISIS / counter-terrorism operations in the region… the soldiers’ names, as well as identifying information about their units, will be withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin notification.

This attack is currently under active investigation.”

This clip from Fox News dove deeper:

The attack happened in a region that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa does not control.

Reuters has more details on the attack:

Two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria on Saturday by a suspected Islamic State attacker who targeted a convoy of American and Syrian forces before being shot dead, the U.S. military said.

The attack was barely a month after Syria announced it had signed a political cooperation agreement with the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State, which coincided with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to the White House.

The attacker was a member of the Syrian security forces, three local officials told Reuters. A Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson told a state-run television channel that the man did not have a leadership role in the security forces.

“On December 10, an evaluation was issued indicating that this attacker might hold extremist ideas, and a decision regarding him was due to be issued tomorrow, on Sunday,” the spokesperson, Noureddine el-Baba, told Syrian television channel Al-Ikhbariya…

In a statement, Central Command said the attack by a lone gunman occurred “as the soldiers were conducting a key leader engagement” in the central Syrian town of Palmyra. “Partner forces” killed the attacker, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote in a social media post.

A senior U.S. official said initial assessments indicated that Islamic State probably carried out the attack, although the militant group did not immediately claim responsibility.

It took place in an area not controlled by the Syrian government, the official said.

President Trump mourned the loss of the soldiers and interpreter who were killed and vowed serious retaliation in a statement on Truth Social.

Read his full post here:

We mourn the loss of three Great American Patriots in Syria, two soldiers, and one Civilian Interpreter. Likewise, we pray for the three injured soldiers who, it has just been confirmed, are doing well. This was an ISIS attack against the U.S., and Syria, in a very dangerous part of Syria, that is not fully controlled by them. The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Please pray for all of these soldiers, the wounded, and their families.

Just terrible.
