According toΒ Just the News, two service members have been denied religious exemptions to the flu vaccine and are at risk of being forced out of the military.
The two service members βpreviously fought the COVID-19 vaccine mandate,β the outlet noted.
Attorney R. Davis Younts said βitβs ironic that one of the individuals instrumentalβ in the fight against the COVID-19 jab mandate is βnow, a couple of years later, facing elimination from the Marines over the flu vaccine.β

Per Just the News:
A service member in the Marine Corps and another in the Air Force are facing separation from their respective military branches after submitting Religious Accommodation Requests (RARs) for the flu shot. Both men objected to the COVID vaccine mandate under the Biden administration and ultimately kept their jobs, but they may lose them under President Trump despite the routine approval of religious exemptions for vaccines before COVID.
Marine First Lieutenant Schuyler Skipper, who has served in the military for 15 years, submitted an RAR for the flu and tetanus/diphtheria shots in December 2022. It was denied in March 2023, according to a report of misconduct reviewed by Just the News. He appealed the denial the following month, and his appeal was denied in February 2024.
The next month, Skipper was ordered to take the vaccines βwithin 10 working days,β the report reads. He then filed a complaint with the Headquarters of the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity office alleging religious discrimination and requested an extension to the vaccine order. Skipperβs extension request was denied in April 2024, and he was informed that he had violated a lawful order. His attorney, R. Davis Younts, told Just the News on Thursday that the religious discrimination complaint was also denied.
Last month, Skipper was recommended for separation from the Marine Corps and βis in a nondeployable status due to his refusal to obtain required vaccinations.β
Younts, who is a retired lieutenant colonel of the Air Force Reserve and former Judge Advocate Generalβs Corps (JAG) lawyer, said that if the Marine Corps continues with the separation process, then Skipper could be kicked out of the military within a few months.
Also, Skipper was a plaintiff in the first COVID vaccine mandate case that resulted in a federal injunction, Younts noted.

β@PeteHegseth service members are still being mandated to get flu vaccines and their commanders are threatening adverse action if they donβt comply. This has to stop. We should not be mandated to inject ourselves in order to serve our country,β Jordan Karr, a former Air Force intelligence officer, previously said.

The report follows a Cleveland Clinic study showing βinfluenza vaccination of working-aged adults was associated with a higher risk of influenza during the 2024-2025 respiratory viral season.β
The researchers concluded the flu shot was not effective in preventing influenza.
π Over 53,000 employees were studied.
π 82.1% got the flu vaccine.
π· Surprisingly, the vaccinated had a 27% higher risk of getting influenza than the unvaccinated.
π Vaccine effectiveness? β26.9% (negative efficacy).

π£ The implications are enormous.
It’s time to demand annual, real-time evaluation of vaccine effectivenessβbefore mandates, not after.

From theΒ preprint:
Employees of Cleveland Clinic in employment in Ohio on October 1, 2024, were included. The cumulative incidence of influenza among those in the vaccinated and unvaccinated states was compared over the following 25 weeks. Protection provided by vaccination (analyzed as a time-dependent covariate) was evaluated using Cox proportional hazards regression.
Among 53402 employees, 43857 (82.1%) had received the influenza vaccine by the end of the study. Influenza occurred in 1079 (2.02%) during the study. The cumulative incidence of influenza was similar for the vaccinated and unvaccinated states early, but over the course of the study the cumulative incidence of influenza increased more rapidly among the vaccinated than the unvaccinated. In an analysis adjusted for age, sex, clinical nursing job, and employment location, the risk of influenza was significantly higher for the vaccinated compared to the unvaccinated state (HR, 1.27; 95% C.I., 1.07 β 1.51; P = 0.007), yielding a calculated vaccine effectiveness of β26.9% (95% C.I., β55.0 to β6.6%).
