New Mexico State Rep. John Block said Tuesday that Republicans are close to flipping the traditionally blue state in the 2024 presidential election.

β€œAccording to analysis of voting performance numbers as of 9am, Republicans are SO CLOSE to flipping New Mexico RED (about 8,000 votes),” Block said.

β€œBut we need to show up and vote. While calling for candidates, I have heard a lot of R’s are planning on voting tonight after work (5pm). So, please stay in line and keep voting. It’s INSANE how close we are to flipping the state, y’all!!!” he added.

Former U.S. Senate candidate for New Mexico Elisa Martinez said Republicans performed well in early voting.

β€œRepublicans in New Mexico are KILLING IT! We have MASSIVE turn out heading into Election Day, where historically Rs > Ds. This shows a MASSIVE ENTHUSIASM GAP FOR DEMS!” Martinez said.

β€œHOLD THE LINE! EVERY REPUBLICAN MUST VOTE! LET’S TURN NEW MEXICO RED! TRUMP2024,” she added.

Is New Mexico in play?

The state hasn’t elected a Republican for president since 2004.

President Trump held a rally in Albuquerque the week before the election.

WATCH:

From the Associated Press:

Donald Trump is traveling to New Mexico and Virginia in the campaign’s final days, taking a risky detour from the seven battleground states to spend time in places where Republican presidential candidates have not won in decades.

The former president campaigned in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Thursday and was scheduled to visit Salem, Virginia, on Saturday.

The Trump team is projecting optimism based in part on early voting numbers and thinks he can be competitive against Democrat Kamala Harris in both states β€” New Mexico in particular, if he sweeps swing states Nevada and Arizona. That hope comes even though neither New Mexico nor Virginia has been carried by a GOP nominee for the White House since George W. Bush in 2004.

RealClearPoliticsΒ shows Harris ahead in New Mexico at a +6.7 percent average.

We’ll continue to provide coverage as polls close within the next several hours.Β
