A state lawmaker in South Carolina has introduced legislation that would name a future interstate after President Trump.

“Rep. Heather Crawford, R-District 68, introduced a bill Tuesday that would name the proposed I-73 the President Donald J. Trump Highway,” WMBF reports.

“Big thanks to State Rep. Heather Crawford and the entire Horry County delegation for introducing legislation TODAY to name I-73 after President @realDonaldTrump!” Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC) said.

“A well-deserved honor for a GREAT President who secured the critical federal permits to make this highway a reality. Let’s make it happen!” he continued.

WMBF shared further:

Crawford said that the naming honors a president whose “leadership put America First.”

“President Donald J. Trump is the greatest President of our lifetime,” Crawford said. “…From the Grand Strand to the Pee Dee, this road means jobs and opportunity for South Carolina families and businesses.”

During his first administration, Crawford said that Trump secured a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit that authorized construction of I-73 after decades of delay.

“Once constructed, I-73 will strengthen hurricane evacuation capacity and support long-term growth for both local residents and millions of annual visitors to South Carolina,” a release in Crawford’s newsletter reads. ”The project is particularly significant for Horry County, which is currently the largest county in the state without direct access to an interstate highway.”

“I proudly support naming I-73 in South Carolina the @POTUS Donald J. Trump Highway! Thank you to the Horry County legislative delegation for introducing this legislation today. President Trump’s leadership helped secure the critical federal approvals that finally made this highway possible for our state,” South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said.

“This is a well-deserved tribute to a President who delivered real results for South Carolina and for America. Thank you Rep. @RussellFrySC and Rep. Heather Crawford – Let’s get it done,” he added.

Wilson is also running for Governor of South Carolina.

“South Carolina is Trump Country! Thank you to the Horry County delegation for pushing to name I-73 The President Donald J. Trump Highway!” South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette commented.

“Such a special way to honor President @realDonaldTrump, who continues to deliver on his promises, especially when it comes to infrastructure,” she continued.

WPDE noted:

Crawford said that the interstate is closer to construction than ever, recounting the voter approval of the RIDE IV program in November 2024, which committed $450 million in local matching funds for its construction.
