Per Newsbreak:

The incident happened on Saturday when the unidentified woman and her husband, Mateus Lima, shopped in a local supermarket. Without warning, her phone exploded in her pocket, instantly catching fire.

In the disturbing video, the woman can be seen panicking as flames burst from her clothing. She immediately ran out of the store, desperately trying to extinguish the fire. Outside, bystanders rushed to help while Lima removed his t-shirt to smother the flames, the Daily Mail reported.

After the fire was extinguished, she was rushed to Alfredo Abraão Hospital, where doctors treated her for first and second-degree burns on her hands, lower back, and buttocks, as well as singed hair from the heat of the explosion. Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors advised her to return for ongoing treatment to ensure proper healing.

More from Daily Mail:

Lima said they had purchased the cellphone, a Moto E32, a year ago and that they were still making payments on it.

Motorola said in a statement that it had already reached out to the woman and was doing an ‘analysis’ of the partially melted phone to figure out what caused it to catch fire.

‘The company prioritizes the safety of its consumers and emphasizes that all of its products are carefully designed and manufactured with the highest standards of quality excellence, undergoing rigorous testing to offer safe performance for the consumer,’ Motorola said.

A similar incident took place in Massachusetts in September 2024, after an iPhone exploded in front of Audra Cataldo, 16, and her friend while they were watching television.

Cataldo told KOLD that the device was magnetically attached to a $25 charger she had purchased off Amazon.

She heard a ‘sizzle’ moments before the back of the phone blew up, charring her sweatshirt and leaving small burns on her arm. An area of her bed mattress was also burned.
