No GOP Senators have stated outright that they will oppose Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination to become President Trump’s Director of National Intelligence.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t hurdles.

Senator Susan Collins (total RINO) has been the most discussed possible threat to Tulsi’s confirmation.

As a member of the Senate Intel Committee, her vote is considered key.  Assuming the Democrats on the Intel Committee vote against her, Gabbard will need all 9 Republicans on the Intel Committee to green light her if she’s to go before the full Senate with the Intel Committee’s official backing.

Mitch McConnell is the other Intel Committee Republican Senator who may or may not side in favor of Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation.

But neither have stated that they will vote against her.

That leaves Todd Young, the Republican Senator from Indiana, as another potential “No” vote against her from within the powerful Intel Committee.

And the rumors have started to swirl today that he is set to sink Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination:

Immediately the pro-Tulsi Gabbard voices went to work on social media, making sure that Sen. Young understood the consequences for standing in the way of President Trump’s nominee.

The issue was brought up in reporting today highlighting that Gabbard can’t afford to lose a vote from the Intelligence committee, with it’s 9-8 party split.

And two different Senate GOP aides were quoted paining Sen. Todd Young’s view on Gabbard as problematic, according to a report today in The Hill:

Republicans are cautioning that Tulsi Gabbard’s path to confirmation to lead the U.S. intelligence apparatus is narrowing as she seemingly has trouble winning over key GOP senators.Republicans are cautioning that Tulsi Gabbard’s path to confirmation to lead the U.S. intelligence apparatus is narrowing as she seemingly has trouble winning over key GOP senators.Republicans are cautioning that Tulsi Gabbard’s path to confirmation to lead the U.S. intelligence apparatus is narrowing as she seemingly has trouble winning over key GOP senators.

Gabbard, along with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kash Patel, are set for their high-stakes confirmation hearings this week as senators face some of President Trump’s most controversial nominees.

Gabbard can’t afford to lose a single vote on the Intelligence Committee, which has a 9-8 party split and features two GOP members who are considered swing votes: Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), who last week voted against another Trump nominee on the floor, and Todd Young (Ind.).

As for Young, two Senate GOP aides described the ex-Marine as being a “problem” for Gabbard.

“Those members are going to have a really hard time getting to ‘yes,’” one of the GOP aides said.

I am afraid that some of Sen. Young’s obvious leanings against President Trump and his nominations are proving consistent in Young’s approach.

Remember when Sen. Todd backed George Floyd, the corrupt Capitol Police, refused to publicly support Pete Hegseth’s nomination, and backed the forced jab?

Gunther Eagleman remembered, and shared this as a reminder:

And dare it fall to the way side, forgotten… don’t forget his stance on President Trump — or for that matter, his apparent support of Joe Biden over President Trump!

The rumors continued to swirl most of the day online regarding Sen. Young’s likely refusal to back Gabbard.

Here’s the full text from that post:

If the rumors are true that Todd Young of Indiana is considering voting against Tulsi Gabbard in Committee (or on floor), then all Young is doing is voting to hurt Tom Cotton and John Thune. Both Cotton and Thune have made it clear Trump’s nominees will make it through. So all Young would be doing is hurting them. I didn’t think Todd Young hated Tom Cotton and John Thune so much.

Here’s the full text from that post, as well:

Todd Young voted to confirm Joe Biden’s Secretary of DNI. But he can’t be bothered to afford the same respect to the leader of his party? Why? Because I’m sure that there are reasons that are not altruistic for his refusal to vote yes on Tulsi Gabbard.

If these people think that this will blow over, that the base will forget. I can assure you that’s not the case because there are so many of us willing to remind everyone that senator Todd Young needs to lose his seat.

But there seems to have been an “UPDATE” of sorts to the trajectory of this story.

As the rumors swirled — not just regarding Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation vote, but also Sen. Young’s involvement with Deep State corruption — Elon Musk initially chimed in taking a hardline attack stance against Sen. Young:

Apparently either Elon or Sen. Young reached out (I’m assuming it was the Senator), and a discussion was had.

The details of that discussion have not been made known.

But Elon Musk then posted this:

I tend to be pro-Elon because Elon tends to be pro-common sense plus a dash or two of non-conformity, plus a generous helping of anti-mediocrity.

That said… I’m having a hard time accepting that Sen. Todd Young is anything but a dangerous snake in the grass — regardless of how he votes on Tulsi Gabbard, at this point.

Though I must confess to a ginormous curiosity about what the Senator could have said to Elon to elicit such an about face.

That “abrupt U-turn” was a surprise to those at the New York Post, as well:

Billionaire tech magnate Elon Musk made an abrupt U-turn and lauded Sen. Todd Young as a “great ally” hours after initially accusing him of being a “deep state puppet” on Sunday.

Musk, 53, had seemingly erupted against Young (R-Ind.), 52, over his tough questioning of Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard during her confirmation hearing last week.

“Todd Young is a deep state puppet,” Musk chided around noon ET in a since-deleted X post that came in response to a user criticizing Young’s ties to the National Endowment for Democracy, a nongovernmental organization that promotes democracy around the world.

The user had suggested Young’s involvement with NED poses conflicts of interest with his forthcoming vote on Gabbard, 43, and claimed that the senator was against her. Young has not publicly committed either way on Gabbard.

Some beltway observers quickly surmised that Musk’s attack against Young could complicate efforts to get him to support Gabbard.

About two hours later, Musk reversed sources and praised Young.

“Just had an excellent conversation with @SenToddYoung. I stand corrected. Senator Young will be a great ally in restoring power to the people from the vast, unelected bureaucracy,” he wrote on X.

One possibility is that the rumors simply weren’t true about his intention to object to Gabbard’s nomination, which seems to be the spark that ignited Elon’s anger towards him.

That would make sense, even if his intention to back her was a pragmatic play considering her popularity among Trump-supporters and President Trump’s popular election victory.

Even if he’s simply playing the game, if his pragmatic political sense is guiding him to confirm Gabbard — that could account for Elon’s change of heart after a personal discussion with the Senator.

He is, after all, one of the few lawmakers who could help push Gabbard’s nomination through — according to a report in The Hill:

“Just had an excellent conversation with @SenToddYoung. I stand corrected,” Musk posted to his social media platform X. “Senator Young will be a great ally in restoring power to the people from the vast, unelected bureaucracy.”

Musk, who has been tapped to lead President Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” previously slammed Young over his indecision in confirming Gabbard. In a separate post, Musk called Young a “deep state puppet.”

Young, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, is a key vote in confirming Gabbard to the position. The senator grilled Gabbard during her hearing last week, expressing concern that she refused to label Edward Snowden as a traitor.

He’s one of a few lawmakers who could help push her toward securing the position.

While there are no indicators to be sure that the conversation between Elon and Sen. Young even broached the subject of Tulsi Gabbard, there seems to be room to hope that this RINO may be at least willing to step aside and at least not thwart President Trump’s nominee.

I don’t think this RINO suddenly ceased being a RINO overnight — or from one phone call with Elon Musk — but, something happened that caused Elon to literally say that he stood “corrected”.

As to what initiated that change of stance, I have no idea.  But I have my ears to the rails trying to figure it out.

This is a developing story in many respects, and we will bring you updates as they develop.
