House Republicans unveiled a new spending bill to avert a government shutdown amidst pressure from President Trump and Elon Musk.

A 1,500+ page continuing resolution (CR) bill faced demise after Musk sparked massive criticism on X.

According to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the 1,547-page CR included a pay raise for Congress, a new football stadium in D.C., and 72 pages of โ€œPandemic Preparedness and Response.โ€

Musk cheered after Republicans scrapped the bill.

โ€œYour elected representatives have heard you and now the terrible bill is dead. The voice of the people has triumphed!โ€ he said.

The updated bill is down to 116 pages.

From The Hill:

After pressure from President-elect Trump and his allies resulted in the demise of the bipartisan spending bill before it could go to the House floor for a vote, House Republicans have reached an agreement on a โ€œplan Bโ€ to avert a government shutdown.

This new 116-page bill comes just hours ahead of Fridayโ€™s funding deadline. The plan is to vote on Thursday, lawmakers announced. The new package will extend government funding for three months and suspend the debt limit until January 2027.

The previous iteration of the package was a 1,500-page bill that included a number of add-ons, including more than $100 billion in disaster and emergency funding, a health care-related package, and an extension of the Farm Bill.

โ€œThe new spending bill is just 116 pages, down from 1547 pages yesterday, and does *not* include congressional pay raises. Trump took a victory lap, calling the new CR a โ€˜very good Deal for the American People,’โ€ Collin Rugg wrote.

โ€œAccording to sources who spoke with NBC, Democrats were not involved with the renegotiated deal,โ€ he added.

President Trump declared โ€œSUCCESS in Washington!โ€

โ€œSpeaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes. A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well โ€“ The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish,โ€ Trump said.

โ€œAll Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote โ€˜YESโ€™ for this Bill, TONIGHT!โ€ he added.

A closer look:

Per CBS News:

Democrats were meeting Thursday afternoon after the billโ€™s release. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said the proposal is โ€œnot seriousโ€ and called it โ€œlaughable.โ€

If Republicans unite behind the bill, Johnson could pass it without Democratic support. But it would still need to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate, and Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill have shown little appetite for bowing to pressure from Trump and Musk. President Biden would also need to sign the bill, and the White House has not responded to the new GOP proposal.

As GOP anger grew over the original continuing resolution, the president-elect called on Republicans to strip out additional spending and add a new element instead: raising or abolishing the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling, which limits how much the government can borrow to pay its bills, is suspended until the first quarter of next year, and Trump said heโ€™d prefer to force Mr. Biden to approve raising the debt ceiling so he wouldnโ€™t have to.

Trump reiterated his position on Thursday in a phone conversation with CBS Newsโ€™ Robert Costa.

โ€œNumber one, the debt ceiling should be thrown out entirely,โ€ Trump said. โ€œNumber two, a lot of the different things they thought theyโ€™d receive [in a recently proposed spending deal] are now going to be thrown out, 100%. And weโ€™ll see what happens. Weโ€™ll see whether or not we have a closure during the Biden administration. But if itโ€™s going to take place, itโ€™s going to take place during Biden, not during Trump.โ€
