Another Republican congressman has just called it quits.

Today, Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee officially resigned from Congress.

His final day was Sunday.

Last month, Rep. Green announced that he would be leaving Congress after he helped to pass President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill.’

After President Trump signed the bill into law on July 4th, he released a farewell video on X:

Rep. Green decided to resign because he got a new job offer — which he has declined to provide much information about.

However, he hinted that it has something to do with helping America compete against the CCP in business.

Fox News has more details on his resignation:

Green, the Republican from Tennessee, said last month that he would leave Congress for the private sector once the House voted again on President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” in a statement first obtained by Fox News Digital.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from Congress. Recently, I was offered an opportunity in the private sector that was too exciting to pass up. As a result, today I notified the Speaker and the House of Representatives that I will resign from Congress as soon as the House votes once again on the reconciliation package,” Green said.

And with the House of Representatives passing Trump’s megabill by a self-imposed July 4th deadline, Green shared with Fox News that his last day in Congress would be Sunday, July 20.

He called serving Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District “the honor of a lifetime.”

“They asked me to deliver on the conservative values and principles we all hold dear, and I did my level best to do so. Along the way, we passed historic tax cuts, worked with President Trump to secure the border, and defended innocent life. I am extremely proud of my work as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, and want to thank my staff, both in my 7th District office, as well as the professional staff on that committee,” Green said.

Green acknowledged in his statement that he had previously geared up to retire in the last Congress, but reversed course.

“Though I planned to retire at the end of the previous Congress, I stayed to ensure that President Trump’s border security measures and priorities make it through Congress,” he said.

“By overseeing the border security portion of the reconciliation package, I have done that. After that, I will retire, and there will be a special election to replace me.”

This is not good news for Republicans, who have lost yet another seat in the House.

While they still have the majority, it will get even narrower later this year when Democrats fill three seats left vacant by Representatives who passed away this year.

The New York Post noted:

Now that he is stepping aside, Republicans will have a 219-212 majority in the House.

But that is set to further shrink when Democrats fill three vacancies for reps that died earlier this year during special elections in the fall. Democrats are heavily favored to reclaim all three of those seats.

Eventually, there will be a special election to replace Green, who had won Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-Tenn.) old House seat in 2018. Blackburn is now eyeing a potential run for Tennessee governor.

Green was also the chairman of the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, which played a critical role in developing the border security provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that cleared the House last week.

With the Tennessee rep stepping down, Republican leadership will have even less room for error during key fights coming up later this year, such as a potentially nasty government shutdown showdown in the fall when Congress has to fund the government for the next fiscal year.

His departure also makes the math harder for other GOP goals, such as House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) plan to pursue another reconciliation bill later this year — the legislative vehicle Republicans used to wrangle the One Big Beautiful Bill Act without Democratic support.

Prior to leaving, Rep. Green endorsed Matt Van Epps to replace him.

The two men are both veterans who served in the same Army special ops unit.

Per WZTV Nashville:

Matt Van Epps is an Army veteran and a West Point 2005 graduate. Throughout his military service, he was awarded the Air Medal with “V” Device, along with the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medals. He most recently served as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services.

I see in Matt Van Epps the same spirit of Duty, Honor, and Country that was instilled in me at West Point and sharpened with the Night Stalkers. Matt is a decorated combat veteran, a relentless fighter, a principled conservative, and exactly the kind of leader the 7th District wants as its voice in Washington. Matt Van Epps has my complete and total endorsement,” said Congressman Green.
