Proposed legislation in the Florida House of Representatives would prohibit the use of the term “West Bank” in official documents and instead use “Judea and Samaria.”
Two nearly identical pieces of legislation, called the “Recognizing Judea and Samaria Act,” have been introduced in the state legislature.
“Refer to the land liberated by Israel from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War by its historical name of ‘Judea and Samaria,’ with the land south of Jerusalem being considered ‘Judea’ and the land north of Jerusalem being considered ‘Samaria,’” one of the bills states.

Members of the Government Operations Subcommittee voted 16-1 for HB 31, which would be implemented in schools at the regular rate when books and other materials are replaced, according to Rep. Chase Tramont, the bill’s co-prime sponsor.
Tramont, a Port Orange Republican and former high school history teacher who now works as a pastor, said the bill is about teaching facts, not “politically charged propaganda.” He noted Florida has the third-largest Jewish population in the country, and accurately teaching students about history is important.
“Judea and Samaria are names that are 3,000 years old. The West Bank was just given in 1950 after it was occupied by Jordan for a while. And why was it given that name? Simply to erase Jewish history,” Tramont said, according to The Jerusalem Post.
“A state agency may not use the term ‘West Bank’ to refer to Judea and Samaria in an official government material or use moneys to create an official government material that refers to Judea and Samaria as ‘West Bank,’” one of the bills reads.

The Jerusalem Post noted:
The committee made some changes, removing a provision authorizing state agencies to use the term “West Bank” under specified conditions and also removing the requirement that instructional materials and library collections acquired on or after July 1, 2026, use “Judea and Samaria” instead of “West Bank.”
The proposal will now be considered and voted on at the State Affairs committee.
“The last thing you want to do is insult your constituency, and you want your trading partners to respect you,” said Tramont. “It’s hard to respect you if you dishonor their history.”
