President Trump’s loyalty to the ‘America First’ doctrine, which he made famous, is being proven by the very thing he’s being attacked over — namely, his support for Israel’s attack on Iran.
That’s according to General (ret.) Mike Flynn’s assessment of the situation.
Gen. Flynn’s argument comes as a sizeable fracture has opened up within the MAGA movement over this issue.
President Trump’s own loyalty to ‘America First’ is being called into question as the potential for American involvement in the conflict becomes more tangible.
Although he campaigned on the premise of no new ‘forever wars’, somehow his willingness to support Israel’s action against Iran is being painted as an abandonment of that promise.
Gen. Mike Flynn disagrees — but not in exactly the same way, or for the same reasons, that the ‘other’ side of that argument has disagreed.
While even President Trump’s clear support for Israel’s unilateral decision to preemptively take out Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program has become contentious among the President’s own base…
Flynn is arguing that the President is actually operating perfectly in sync with the ‘America First’ agenda — if you factor in China, and take the President’s words and actions at face value.
The schism among Trump Supporters reached a boiling point recently with Tucker Carlson’s claim that the President was essentially ABANDONING the ‘America First’ movement altogether, echoing the sentiments of many conservative Trump supporters.
Tucker attempted to frame his concerns more tactfully when he explained his reason for speaking out this morning on Steve Bannon’s War Room:
TUCKER CARLSON: The reason I’m speaking out is because if we get dragged into this, we could be witnessing the end of the American empire.
It could effectively end Trump’s presidency.
I’ve seen it happen myself with George W. Bush and Iraq.@TuckerCarlson pic.twitter.com/bFzAEA7hff

Here’s the full screen version of that clip with much better audio for convenience:
Tucker Carlson warns that if the U.S. gets involved in a war with Iran it would end Trump’s presidency and bring an END to the “American empire.”

Tucker made the original statements that set off the firestorm in his recent newsletter, as covered by Mediate:
“On Thursday, Iran’s president threatened to ‘destroy’ any country that eliminates his government’s nuclear facilities. Now, the world will learn what that looks like,” the newsletter reads.
“While the American military may not have physically perpetrated the assault, years of funding and sending weapons to Israel, which Donald Trump just bragged about on Truth Social, undeniably place the U.S. at the center of last night’s events. Washington knew these attacks would happen. They aided Israel in carrying them out. Politicians purporting to be America First can’t now credibly turn around and say they had nothing to do with it. Our country is in deep,” the newsletter reads.
Carlson then called the president “complicit.”
“Despite being complicit in the act of war, the president hopes last night’s events will help his ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Later in the day, General Mike Flynn appeared on Bannon’s show with a slightly different take.
He didn’t exactly argue as strongly as some have for going ‘all in’ with Israel and joining the war effort against Iran.
But he did a great job explaining how the ‘America First’ doctrine is actually STEERING the President’s decisions in this situation.
Rather than abandoning his ‘America First’ roots because of pressure from the war hawks, or falling prey to those who would have him completely withdraw his support altogether for Israel’s strike on Iran… Gen. Flynn is arguing that President Trump is playing a much more nuanced — and long-term game — than either of those paths would allow.
Instead, he argues that President Trump is attempting to take the MOST ‘America First’ path he could possibly take.
Have a listen to Gen. Flynn’s take on the options and risks that President Trump is navigating in perfect alignment with his ‘America First’ doctrine:
General Flynn says we have to allow Israel to “Finish the Job” in order to fully Pivot and Focus on China, our Greatest Adversary
• he says the goal would be regime change — to get a new regime in there that is an ally to America and weakens China
• he says this would… pic.twitter.com/AUq3grYf0U

The way I hear it, Gen. Flynn is emphasizing a key red line that President Trump has consistently said can never be allowed — a nuclear-armed Iran — while finding a way to pull it off without getting embroiled in another ‘forever war’, or pushing WWIII into a fully kinetic global conflict.
And his explanation of President Trump’s actions within this situation seem very aligned with the ‘America First’ doctrine, based on how Gen. Flynn connects the Israel-Iran war with the true threat from China.
I gathered a few takeaways from Gen. Flynn’s assessment.
It seems that President Trump is attempting to ensure Iran doesn’t get a nuclear weapon, while simultaneously respecting Israel’s sovereign decision to preemptively act in it’s own best interest.
But he is also focused on preventing that reality from FORCING HIS HAND in taking America to war, when his intention was to find a diplomatic solution if at all possible.
If you couch the President’s position within the ‘America First’ doctrine, and consider the emphasis Gen. Flynn highlights regarding CHINA’S role in this as both the primary American adversary and Iran’s largest ally…
Here are the options, in order of preference, that President Trump is logically left with:
- Allow Israel to FINISH THE JOB, ensuring Iran’s ability to attain nuclear war capability is destroyed.
- Capitalize on Iran’s fear of complete annihilation at the hands of Israel (and the threat of American intervention) in order to get them to accept his deal — thus… ending the conflict and ensuring Iran’s ability to attain nuclear war capability is destroyed.
- Directly join with Israel… ensuring Iran’s ability to attain nuclear war capability is destroyed.
President Trump has not wavered in his argument that Iran can never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapons.
But… how do you pull that off if you’re unwilling to go to war to keep it from happening?
As I just outlined, informed by Gen. Flynn’s assessment that this is really about getting the Iran situation BEHIND us in order to focus on economic and diplomatic avenues of countering the REAL threat — China…
You support Israel’s attempt to destroy the Iranian nuclear program once and for all, and fully.
And you attempt to do so with minimal involvement, and hopefully without ever having to directly engage Iran with U.S. military assets.
Which is exactly what President Trump has done so far!
That’s a lot more nuanced than what most of the mainstream media is feeding us, and I suspect that’s because the intention of the media isn’t clarity — rather, they are still trying to sow DIVISION among President Trump’s base of support.
Imagine the two scenarios that COULD unfold as a result of the two extreme counterpoints being emphasized by the mainstream media:
If President Trump goes ‘all-in’ and joins with Israel, we could see a massive escalation of nations joining the fight — and we ultimately never get past this to focus on CHINA. (And ‘America First’ suffers as a consequence of China’s strategic ‘win’ against us.)
Or, if President Trump pulls back his support and doesn’t allow Israel the chance to complete the job on their own, Iran potentially GETS their nuke — and again, we never get to shift our focus to countering the threat that CHINA posses to everything espoused by ‘America First’.
I don’t think I saw that quite as clearly until I heard Gen. Flynn’s explanation, connecting this to the real threat — CHINA — and truly overlaying how the China question will ultimately impact the ‘America First’ agenda.
When questioned about his stance and assessment, harkening back to the lies and ‘faulty’ intelligence that got us into wars in the past, Gen. Flynn drew a distinction:
Back then Colin Powell presented a lie to the United Nations with the full weight of the DCI and CIA behind that misinformation. That drew us into an unnecessary war in Iraq to this day, it is impacting damn near every facet of our lives here at home. A disastrous decision. In…

Here’s the full text of the General’s answer:
Back then Colin Powell presented a lie to the United Nations with the full weight of the DCI and CIA behind that misinformation. That drew us into an unnecessary war in Iraq to this day, it is impacting damn near every facet of our lives here at home. A disastrous decision. In this case, once you achieve 3 percent uranium enrichment, you can move to 90 percent rapidly. Iran did just that. All then that is required is to marry up the NUC warhead with a ballistic propulsion system and you have a nuclear missile. Some will say it requires testing etc. none of that would happen under the psychos who are running Iran. And once they claim they have a NUC, the world changes again. What this means for America is we have a major decision to make. At what point does America stop kowtowing to the regional players across the entire Middle East, not just Israel. America must restart everything that we have in abundance inside of our own nation. DJT has to reenergize every single sector of America (energy, manufacturing, robotics, medical, health, farming, mining, etc etc). No perfect answers or solutions but the world cannot afford to allow psychotics who call for the annihilation of an entire culture possess nuclear weapons.
Mark Levin, who has attacked and suffered personal counter-attacks launched back and forth between him and Tucker Carlson over this issue, has seemed far more willing to advocate for direct action on the part of the United States in the current war.
Tucker Carlson’s warnings have been somewhat skewed in my opinion, painting him as quite a bit more anti-Trump than he really is — as that earlier clip of his discussion with Steve Bannon made abundantly clear.
But either way, even Mark Levin AGREED with General Flynn’s non-war hawk approach to the situation:
General Flynn is right about thishttps://t.co/KrOSaHsNpm
— Mark R. Levin (@marklevinshow) June 16, 2025
Levin was pointing to an article in which Flynn made a distinction between “Anti-Stupid War” vs “Anti-War”, according to a report by Breitbart:
“War is never a good thing, but sometimes it is a necessary thing,” declared Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who described himself as “anti-stupid war,” “not anti-war” as he issued a strong defense of Israel’s military campaign against Iran’s “psychotic” and “corrupt authoritarian tyrannical regime.” He warned that threats to annihilate Israel and America come at a price, while urging regime change and hailing the IDF’s historically unparalleled military prowess and precision.
The retired three-star general emphasized that Iran’s leadership, which has long threatened both Israel and the United States, could not be allowed to possess nuclear arms.
Flynn also drew attention to suspicious activity in Tehran, noting that a 747 jet took off from Iran’s capital after the closure of national airspace, then “immediately” went dark, speculating the flight may have carried elite officials and valuables.
“When a corrupt authoritarian tyrannical regime dies, among the first actions is for those leaders and their families who have gotten rich off the backs and persecution of their own people move to their alternative palaces, dachas, or homes,” he wrote.
The matter comes as Israel’s decisive actions have not only disrupted Iran’s nuclear momentum but also demonstrated extraordinary military effectiveness. Achieving full air superiority over Tehran within just 48 hours, the IDF has carried out precision strikes deep into enemy territory — far ahead of projections. With Iran’s defenses shattered and its regime destabilized, Operation Rising Lion marks a bold stand against nuclear terror and a potential turning point in the Middle East.
While somewhat peripheral to his main argument, here’s the post Gen. Flynn shared yesterday referenced in that article, highlighting the suspicious 747 flight out of Tehran:
ATTENTION!
An overnight development:
Iranian airspace was officially closed, yet a 747 takes off from Tehran International Airport, then immediately goes dark.
Destination unknown.
So what? When a corrupt authoritarian tyrannical regime dies, among the first actions is for… pic.twitter.com/3gX8SDsAa9
— General Mike Flynn (@GenFlynn) June 15, 2025
If that flight DOES turn out to have signaled a panicked fleeing of top Iranian brass, or the family of the Ayatollah, out of Iran — that wouldn’t be peripheral at all.
That could mean that Israel’s attempts to bring both the nuclear program and the leadership hierarchy of Iran to it’s knees might be working.
It could also signal that Iran is unwilling to continue the fight, and President Trump’s unwillingness to withdraw his support for Israel’s actions might be taking a toll after all.
That lines up PERFECTLY with what President Trump has been saying to Iran all along, and what he has been trying to achieve out of this situation even after Israel launched it’s attack:
Here’s the text of the President’s message about a ‘second chance’ for Iran to accept a deal:
Two months ago I gave Iran a 60 day ultimatum to “make a deal.” They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!
General Flynn rounded out his assessment that President Trump is actually PROVING his loyalty to the ‘America First’ doctrine in a published article he titled, “Trump’s Great Test – Peace Through Strength or Endless Wars”.
According to Flynn, the question isn’t whether the President decides to use the American military to achieve the goals he sees fit to achieve.
The real question, he contents, is whether or not President Trump is getting reliable intelligence in order to make those hard calls.
Is the info being filtered through the remnants of Obama-era and Joe Biden’s Deep State?
That’s the primary question Flynn posed in his article in The Western Journal:
Israel’s all-out attack on the nuclear weapons infrastructure and leadership of Iran has created an historic choice: Will Israel be allowed to defeat decisively the existential threat long posed by the tyrannical Iranian regime both to her people and ours – and, thereby, usher in an era of potential strategic stability aligned with Western civilization that the Middle East and the free world have rarely known?
Or will the United States interfere, as it has done consistently in the past, to prevent such a clear-cut victory – and, thereby, ensure that Israel’s enemies, and ours, live to fight another day?
The answer is essentially up to President Donald Trump.
Fortunately, Mr. Trump appears to have, as usual, grasped the central issue: In comments on June 14 responding to Tucker Carlson’s criticism of “U.S. support for Israel during its attacks on Iran as…anathema to the ‘America First’ way of doing things,” the President told The Atlantic’s Michael Scherer:
“Well, considering that I’m the one that developed “America First,” and considering that the term wasn’t used until I came along, I think I’m the one that decides that.
For those people who say they want peace – you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon. So, for all of those wonderful people who don’t want to do anything about Iran having a nuclear weapon – that’s not peace.”
Presumably, that clarity will translate into further support for Israel’s comprehensive take-down of the Iranian nuclear weapons program and its destruction of Iran’s capacity to fight on thanks to surviving second- and third-tier regime leadership – many members of whom are reputed to be even more psychopathic and apocalyptic than those more senior clerics and officers thankfully neutralized to date.
Stopping Israel from finishing the job – whether by cutting off the supply of weapons it requires to prosecute the war or by otherwise interfering with its pursuit – will mean that some residual nuclear program remains in the hands of Sharia-supremacists who remain and are determined to destroy both Israel and the United States.
This is a time when President Trump must have access to his best military advice from Joint Chiefs Chairman General Daniel “Raisin” Caine and Central Command’s General Michael “Erik” Kurilla about both the opportunities, as well as the risks, associated with Israel having the time, wherewithal and diplomatic leeway to pursue successfully a decisive victory.
Not least, the President is entitled to hear that the utter destruction of the Chinese Communists’ most important regional ally by ours is arguably the single most important step we can take at the moment to deter their aggression elsewhere. (Emphasis Added.)
The firestorm that has erupted over the polarizing issue of Iran and their alleged nuclear weapons program didn’t start with Tucker Carlson — like him, or hate him.
And it COULD take the form of a principled discussion, as I see General Mike Flynn attempting, were it not for the gaslighting of the mainstream media.
The media is fervently attempting to turn this into a hill that every Trump supporter is expected to metaphorically die on, ultimately at President Trump’s expense — and that of our nation, as well.
No one who voted for President Trump did so with the intention of starting another war; particularly not a needless war initiated by faulty intel and money-printing corporate interests.
But if ‘America First’ has as a prioritized component, as President Trump has clearly identified, a focus on addressing the true threats presented to the United States by China — economic, technological, trade-related, and military in nature…
It does stand to reason that allowing their greatest Mideast ally to retain the ability to wreak havoc upon the world might not be, as General Flynn has argued, in alignment with ‘America First’ at all.
Seen in that light, President Trump’s actions so far in this conflict don’t seem all that counter to ‘America First’ after all.
In fact, President Trump’s actions may be the MOST ‘America First’ focused of any viewpoint I’ve heard argued so far in this conflict.
