While it might be hard to find two presidents more dissimilar than Barack Obama and Donald Trump, they share one detail about their respective inauguration ceremonies that is unlike any of the nation’s other commanders-in-chief.
Viewers of Monday’s ceremony will notice that Trump will take his oath with not just one, but a pair of Holy Bibles. He did the same when he was inaugurated eight years ago, as did Obama during both of his inaugurations.
The Bible Abraham Lincoln used to swear the oath of office in 1861 has been used by both men, as Fox News reported:
“It has only been used three times since, by President Obama at each of his inaugurations and by President Trump at his first inauguration in 2017,” Trump’s team states. “The burgundy velvet-bound book is part of the collections of the Library of Congress.”
President Obama also took the oath of office on two Bibles back in 2013, the Associated Press reported. One was owned by Martin Luther King Jr. and the other was the Lincoln Bible.
When Trump is sworn in as the 47th President of the United States inside the Capitol’s rotunda, he will do so facing a bust of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on the federal holiday commemorating King’s legacy.
Trump’s approaching inauguration, the notable guests who will be in attendance, and the widespread support he has going into his second term, have contributed to an outpouring of optimism on social media:

The Hill reported on the significance of the other Bible that will be used during Monday’s swearing-in:
President-elect Trump will use a Bible that was given to him by his mother, as well as the Lincoln Bible, for his swearing-in Monday.
Trump’s late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, gave him the Bible in 1955 to mark his Sunday Church Primary School graduation at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, N.Y., according to the Trump Inaugural Committee.
The inside cover of the Bible is signed by church officials and inscribed with Trump’s name and details of when it was gifted to him.
Here’s a rundown of the notable celebrities slated to perform during the Inauguration Day festivities:
