In a new interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, President Trump shed some light on what happens next, after his second term is over.

First, he addressed the growing third term rumors…

Will Trump 2028 really be happening?

When Host Kristen Welker asked him that question, President Trump noted that — despite many people wanting him to serve a third term — this is not something I’m looking to do.”

Instead, President Trump wants to pass the mantle down to the next generation of MAGA. And, he gave some hints as to who, exactly, he would like to see eventually succeed him.

First, and foremost, President Trump mentioned Vice President JD Vance.

Watch what he had to say about Vance here:

Vice President JD Vance would make a great leader of this nation. Many patriots would be very happy to support him in 2028.

But, he isn’t the only candidate that President Trump mentioned by name.

Very notably, he also name-dropped Marco Rubio…

NBC News had the following to say about who President Trump could see following in his footsteps:

Among the GOP stars Trump said can take charge of the MAGA brand — which he described as the greatest political movement in history — is Vance, who Trump suggested would likely have an advantage over other competitors in a Republican primary for the top job. Welker asked if Vance would be “at the top of the list” as his successor, and Trump praised his vice president without making any commitments.

“It could very well be,” Trump said, before adding, “I don’t want to get involved in that. I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. There’s a lot of them that are great.”

He also emphasized that such discussions are “far too early.”

“But certainly you would say that somebody’s the VP, if that person is outstanding, I guess that person would have an advantage,” Trump said.

Trump has declined to be drawn into endorsing or labeling Vance as his anointed successor, while still showering him with praise over his work. In February, Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier that Vance is “very capable” but that he did not necessarily view Vance as his successor.

Trump also named Rubio as a “great” potential GOP leader.

This X user noted how President Trump keeps subtly bringing up Rubio:

Recently, President Trump has been entrusting Marco Rubio with a lot of responsibilities.

There’s no doubt that he has a lot of confidence in Rubio.

The New York Post noted:

Last week, Trump announced that he was tapping Rubio as his interim national security adviser in addition to his duties as secretary of state, archivist and head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Back in the 2016 cycle, Trump and Rubio had been bitter rivals, with the president dubbing his future secretary of state “Little Marco,” among other insults. But the two have since become close allies.

Could it be that President Trump is trusting Rubio with more and more as a test? Possibly to prepare him for a future presidency?

Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Both JD Vance and Marco Rubio are excellent candidates who have already proven themselves in President Trump’s current administration.

Personally, I would be happy to have either one as my next president in 2028 (or 2032? You never know if President Trump might change his mind…)

Who would you like to see succeed President Trump?
