โJust had a very productive call with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam wants to cut their Tariffs down to ZERO if they are able to make an agreement with the U.S. I thanked him on behalf of our Country, and said I look forward to a meeting in the near future,โ Trump said.

Per Firstpost:
On Thursday, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered the immediate formation of a โrapid response teamโ following Trumpโs announcement of sweeping tariffs a day earlier.
In a separate statement, the government confirmed that Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc would be traveling to the United States for a โworking visit.โ
American tariffs on Vietnam targeted sectors including apparel, furniture and toys, with analysts warning of potential price hikes for American consumers.
In response, the Vietnamese government has formally requested a one to three-month delay in the tariffs, hoping to create space for negotiations. According to Reuters, Hanoi is also preparing a goodwill package, planning to ramp up purchases of American goods like aircraft and liquefied petroleum gas, while easing investment conditions for American companies operating in Vietnam.

From The Economic Times:
Vietnam, a key manufacturing hub and the USโs largest trading partner in Southeast Asia last year, was hit with a 46 percent tariff as part of Trumpโs broader trade measures. Despite initial claims from officials that the tariffs were non-negotiable, Trumpโs remarks suggest a potential shift.
During his first term, Trumpโs trade war with China prompted companies to move manufacturing to Vietnam, doubling its trade surplus with the US between 2017 and 2023. However, the new tariffs have raised costs for major brands operating in the country.
Nike, which produced half of its footwear and over a quarter of its apparel in Vietnam in the 2024 financial year, now faces significantly higher expenses. Similarly, Japanese gaming giant Nintendo, which has expanded production in Vietnam and Cambodia, announced on Friday that it would delay preorders for its upcoming Switch 2 console, set to launch on June 5, as it assesses the impact of the tariffs.
