However, the White House quickly cautioned in a press release on May 5 that no tariffs have yet been set in place.
The White House press release stated, βno final decisions on foreign film tariffs have been made.β

Reporter: What about the movie tariffs?
Trump: Other nations have been stealing the moviesβ the movie making capabilities from the US. Iβve done some very strong research over the past week and weβre making very few movies now.

Check out what CNN reported:
Filmmakers and Hollywood financiers are baffled, to say the least, by President Trumpβs announcement that he wants a 100% tariff on movies produced outside the United States.
Several movie studio and streaming industry executives who spoke with CNN are downright apoplectic because, they believe, the president hasnβt thought about the ramifications of his proposal, which could decimate an iconic industry.
βOn first blush, itβs shocking and would represent a virtually complete halt of production,β one industry insider remarked. βBut in reality, he has no jurisdiction to do this and itβs too complex to enforce.β
Other sources are taking a more open-minded view, asserting that Trump is instigating a dialogue about a real issue β so-called βrunaway productionβ β that has left many Americans in the movie and TV production sector out of work.
But the prospect of film levies has injected even more uncertainty into an already-unsettled business. Shares of Netflix and other major entertainment companies fell Monday as investors digested Trumpβs confusing comments. βIn its current form, the tariff doesnβt make sense,β Jay Sures, vice chairman of United Talent Agency, told CNN.American actors and directors would generally prefer to work close to home. But βthe fact is itβs cheaper for Hollywood studios to pay for everyone to get on planes, pay for hotels, because the cost of labor, lack of rebates, and the ability to make things overseas is infinitely cheaper,β Sures said.
President Donald Trump has announced his administration will impose a 100 PERCENT TARIFF on movies produced outside of the United States.

Per USA Today:
The White House appeared to walk back an announcement by President Donald Trump that he would slap 100% tariffs on foreign-produced films to boost Hollywood.
A White House statement on May 5 said that βno final decisions on foreign film tariffs have been madeβ after Trumpβs declaration made waves in the entertainment industry.
Trump posted on social media May 4 that he was βauthorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.β
The president said he was concerned incentives luring filmmakers overseas are sending the American movie industry to βa very fast death.β
Although Trump said his team was moving forward on the tariffs, White House spokesman Kush Desai seemed to temper that in the May 5 statement that no final decision has been made, while also saying β the administration is exploring all options to deliver on President Trumpβs directive to safeguard our countryβs national and economic security while Making Hollywood Great Again.β
