Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Kamala Harris is “going to have to answer” for not publicly raising concerns about Joe Biden’s health leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

Shapiro, considered a candidate for Harris’s running mate, made the comments during an interview with Stephen A. Smith.

According to the New York Post, Shapiro told Smith that Harris would have to answer forhow she was in the room and yet never said anything publicly.”

Shapiro told Smith he was outspoken about Biden’s capability of running for another term.

In her upcoming book, Harris discussed her shortlist of running mate candidates.

Harris said Shapiro seemed more interested in the VP role than in helping her win the election.

More from the New York Post:

Shapiro, whose named has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2028, framed his critique around the battleground stakes.

“If you can’t win Pennsylvania, it’s pretty darn hard to win the national election,” he said.

The governor’s remarks followed fresh excerpts from Harris’s forthcoming memoir, “107 Days,” which depict Shapiro as unusually focused on the trappings of the vice presidency during vetting — including asking how many bedrooms are in the Naval Observatory residence and whether the Smithsonian would lend Pennsylvania art to display.

Harris also wrote that she considered him likely to want to be “in the room for every decision.”

A Shapiro spokesperson, Manuel Bonder, called those claims “simply ridiculous,” saying the governor was focused on defeating the eventual winner, President Donald Trump, and campaigned hard for the ticket.

Shapiro told Smith he hasn’t read her book.

The Democrat governor said he voiced his concerns privately to Biden’s team about his fitness to run for another term.

“I was direct with them,” Shapiro said.

“I told them my concerns,” he added.

The Hill provided further info:

Biden dropped out of the race in July 2024 after a poor performance in the first presidential debate. Harris announced her bid for the presidency shortly after.

Harris’s campaign lasted 107 days, which she has called “the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.” Her memoir describes the campaign and her reasons for ultimately choosing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as vice president on her ticket.

She wrote that former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg had been her “first choice” for running mate but that their ticket would have been “too risky.”

“We were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man,” she wrote. “Part of me wanted to say, ‘Screw it, let’s just do it.’ But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk.”

In another excerpt of her memoir published in The Atlantic, Harris wrote that she had been in the “worst position to make the case that he [Biden] should drop out.”

“He would see it as naked ambition, perhaps as poisonous disloyalty, even if my only message was: Don’t let the other guy win,” she wrote.
