Is Nancy Pelosi going to just hand her Congressional Seat over to her daughter to continue the Pelosi dynasty now that she’s stepping down?

It might not be quite that easy, but some believe that’s exactly what they’ll try to do.

On Thursday, Nancy Pelosi announced she will retire and not seek re-election after being in office for over 40 years.

Pelosi announced on Thursday morning she would not seek re-election in 2027.

The world of politics never stops, so shortly after she announced she was retiring, many people have speculated that her daughter Christine Pelosi would take her mother’s seat.

The Hill had more details to add on Pelosi’s possible replacements.

The race is on to replace Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after she announced on Thursday she wouldn’t be running for reelection, opening up her San Francisco-based House seat for the first time in decades.

A handful of Democrats have been floated as potential successors. Unlikely other states, California has a “jungle primary,” meaning all candidates are listed on the same ballot, regardless of party. The top two vote-getters then proceed to the general election, meaning two Democrats could square off next November for her seat.

One name to watch for is progressive Connie Chan, who has represented District 1 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors since 2021 and chairs its Budget and Finance Committee.

Pelosi endorsed the San Francisco supervisor in her tight reelection bid last year despite the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee backing her more moderate challenger, Marjan Philhour, according to The San Francisco Standard. Chan was also buoyed by the support of key labor groups.

Politico noted that some local observers believe the former House Speaker wants Chan to succeed her in the House given a shared appearance together with labor groups who were supporting California’s redistricting ballot measure.

The Hong Kong-born supervisor was a former aide to former San Francisco Supervisor Sophie Maxwell and former Vice President Harris when she was San Francisco’s district attorney.

Chan spokesperson Robyn Burke told Politico last month that “she supports Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi for Congress” when asked for comment.

Christine Pelosi, a California DNC member and the daughter of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, could also be a potential successor to her mother in the House.

Christine Pelosi sits on the executive committees for the Democratic National Committee and California Democratic Party. She is an attorney, whose experience includes working as special counsel in the Clinton-Gore administration.

Christine Pelosi has also extensively covered her mother’s personal life and political career, including shooting a documentary about her mother, “Pelosi in the House,” and authoring the “The Nancy Pelosi Way.”

Kron 4 reported more on Christine Pelosi possible replacing her mother:

While she has not officially declared herself in the running, Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s daughter, Christine Pelosi has long been regarded as a possible successor to her mother. An attorney, author and Democratic Party strategist, the younger Pelosi has never held elected office. However, she has name recognition and presumably, access to the same Democratic donor network wielded by her powerhouse fundraising mother.

At 59, she would be the oldest among the possible candidates, which combined with her last name, could be an obstacle among voters looking to turn the generational page on one of the oldest, and longest-serving members of Congress.
