As the days go by, being a lawmaker in any state has become quite dangerous.
Unfortunately, the trend continues.
A doctor from Ohio has been arrested after allegedly forcing a Republican lawmaker off the road.
Dr. Feras Hamdan, 36, was arrested and had his bail set at $500,000 after allegedly running Rep. Max Miller off the road in a road-rage incident.
Newsweek had the scoop:
Feras Hamdan, a 36-year-old Ohio doctor, turned himself in with counsel on Friday and was arrested and charged after allegedly forcing Republican Representative Max Miller off the road in a road rage incident.
According to Rocky River, Ohio, police, the incident occurred on June 15 when Hamdan allegedly tailgated Miller’s vehicle, swerved erratically, and ultimately veered into his lane, causing the congressman to drive off the road to avoid a collision.
Police said Miller’s wife and 2-year-old son were also in the car at the time of the incident in the suburb of Cleveland.Rocky River Police Department confirmed to Newsweek Friday afternoon that Hamdan was a doctor. He appeared in court for arraignment earlier in the day.
While authorities have not disclosed Hamdan’s alleged motive in detail, law enforcement indicated that his actions appeared intentional and targeted, prompting further legal scrutiny and public concern.
The case has sparked renewed debate over political tensions and public safety. The investigation remains ongoing, and federal charges could be considered depending on additional evidence.
Watch Rep. Miller explain the story here:
The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control. Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off. The New York Post had these details to add and provides an unexpected twist on what led Hamdan to allegedly run Rep. Miller off the road:
“Congressman Miller reported he was driving on Interstate 90 [around 9:30 a.m. Thursday] when the suspect threatened him and his family along with making antisemitic slurs,” the department said.
“[T]he second party to the road rage incident was identified as [Hamdan] from Westlake… Hamdan voluntarily turned himself in at the Rocky River Police Department, with counsel, and is awaiting a court appearance.”
The First Amendment generally protects Americans’ use of religious and racial slurs, but when used in the commission of a crime can result in hate-crime designations for enhanced punishment.
It was not immediately clear if Hamdan will face more stringent prosecution as a result.
Miller, who represents and area south of Cleveland, is one of four Jewish House Republicans and worked in President Trump’s first administration as an advance and personnel office aide.
