NFL quarterback Russell Wilson firmly denied any connection to Jeffrey Epstein after his name was referenced in the Justice Department’s latest batch of released Epstein files.

“NOPE!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT! Not TODAY satan!” the 10-time Pro Bowler said, responding to a since-deleted post about his name being referenced in the files.

“Some Random plane broker tried to sell me a plane. I had no idea whose plane and never bought the plane. Never talked nor Never met the man. Thank God!!!” the Super Bowl XLVIII champion added.

PEOPLE shared further details:

In a January 2019 email, pilot Larry Visosk explained to Epstein that Wilson was interested in buying his Gulfstream G-IV private jet.

“Here is the dilemma, according to Russell,” the email began. “Russell wants to sign his new contract with the Seattle Seahawks before letting the media and his team know that he is purchasing a plane, he is concerned it will effect [sic] his contract negotiations for some reason??

The email continued, “Russell is asking for a way to lock up the plane until his deal is signed, could be 2 weeks or 2 months or more. He took many photos and video during the flight with his Wife or girlfriend Ciara (she’s a fairly popular singer). I truely [sic] think he will perform after he signs his contract.”

“If you have nothing to hide and you’re not guilty of anything then proving your innocence should be simple. So all of the people who is crying about ‘innocent’ people on this list, all they have to do is do what @DangeRussWilson just did. It’s easy if you’re innocent,” said former Breitbart reporter Jennifer Lawrence.

Other social media users commended Wilson for quickly speaking out after the reference of his name in the files.

More from USA TODAY:

Later that spring, Wilson did end up signing a four-year, $140 million contract extension with Seattle that made him the NFL’s highest-paid player at the time.

Wilson eventually did purchase a different Gulfstream G-IV. The Seattle Times reports that FAA records show the aircraft was registered to Seattle-based West2East 330 LLC in December 2020.

Publicist Stephanie Jones, whose firm represents Wilson, told the Times in an email Sunday afternoon that the Super Bowl 48 champion “never purchased the aircraft, nor was he aware that any aircraft discussed by third parties had any connection to Epstein.”
