The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that the franchise will build a new stadium and move to the State of Kansas.
The Chiefs will begin playing their home games in Kansas in 2031.

The announcement follows Kansas lawmakers approving a proposal to help fund a new domed stadium for the franchise to replace the aging Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
“The franchise is designing and building a state-of-the-art domed stadium and Arrowhead Stadium will no longer be the home of the Chiefs following the 2030 season,” ESPN stated.

ESPN shared further:
The agreement includes a $3 billion domed stadium to be built in Wyandotte County and a new Chiefs headquarters and training facility in Olathe, Kansas.
“Today is an extraordinary day in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs,” Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with the State of Kansas to bring a world-class stadium to our fans. This project represents another step in our legacy of innovation and our fan-first mentality, which started with my father, Lamar Hunt. The stadium, practice facility, and surrounding development will benefit the entire region, and further elevate Kansas City in the eyes of the country and the world.”
The Legislative Coordinating Council, which includes the state’s top lawmakers, voted unanimously inside a packed room at the state capitol to allow for STAR bonds to be issued to cover up to 70% of the cost of a stadium and accompanying district. The bonds would be paid off with state sales and liquor tax revenues generated in a defined area around it.
The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium on the Missouri side of Kansas City for over 50 years, with the first season in 1972.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly celebrated the team’s move across the state border.

“This is a total game-changer for Kansas. We’re making Kansas the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” the Democrat governor continued.

NBC News noted:
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, son of team founder Lamar Hunt, likened this move to his dad’s bold moves to enter the American Football League to bring this franchise to the Midwest.
A new domed stadium for the Chiefs will be part of a “mixed-use district in Wyandotte County, and a best-in-class training facility, team headquarters, and mixed-use district in Olathe, totaling a minimum of $4 billion of development in the State of Kansas,” according to Hunt.
“Dad consistently looked to the future and propelled the game forward for nearly half a century. Every step of the way, he prioritized the fans. And every step of the way, he thought about the next generation,” Hunt said in a statement.
“Today we are excited to take another momentous step for the future of the franchise. We have entered into an agreement with the State of Kansas to host Chiefs football beginning with the 2031 NFL season.”
The franchise has soared in popularity in recent years, due in equal parts their success on the field and up in the bleachers.
Kansas City has appeared in five of the past six Super Bowls, having won three titles with dynamic quarterback Patrick Mahomes and star tight end Travis Kelce.
