A new poll conducted by Harvard Caps/Harris shows that, in a hypothetical matchup between Donald Trump and the other potential 2024 Republican Presidential Candidates, Trump would win the vast majority of votes.
In the poll, Trump would come away with 46% of the vote, with Ron DeSantis trailing far behind with only 28% of the vote. After the top two candidates are former Vice President Mike Pence with 7%, Senator Ted Cruz with 3%, and former UN Ambassador under Trump Nikki Haley with 2%.
With just under 1% of the vote are Florida Senator Marco Rubio, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
2024 National Republican Primary:
Trump 46% DeSantis 28% Pence 7% Cruz 3% Haley 2% Rubio 1% Pompeo 1% T. Scott 1%
Another poll conducted by Harvard/Harris shows the theoretical results of the top two Republican Presidential Candidates versus Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This poll revealed that Trump would beat Biden by two points, and would beat Harris by seven.
2024 Presidential Election Poll:
(R) Donald Trump 44% (+2) (D) Joe Biden 42%
(R) Donald Trump 47% (+7) (D) Kamala Harris 40% . (R) Ron DeSantis 43% (=) (D) Joe Biden 43%
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump announced to a crowd at Mar-a-Lago.
“This will not be my campaign,” Trump added, “this will be our campaign all together.”
The only other potential nominee, DeSantis, has been seemingly at odds with Trump lately, as many predict he will throw his hat in the ring for the 2024 presidential elections. Trump is not taking kindly to this speculation, however, and put DeSantis on blast on Truth Social.
He insisted that DeSantis’ political success and role as Florida’s governor is entirely due to his influence and endorsement, suggesting that DeSantis therefore should not run against him out of respect.
Trump said that before DeSantis came to him for help with his campaign for governor, he “had low approvals, bad polls, and no money.” He added that, after he endorsed DeSantis, he “fixed his campaign, which had completely fallen apart.”
DeSantis, however, when asked about this heightened tension between the two, shut down the reporters and told them to “chill out.”
“We just finished this election, OK? People just need to chill out a little bit on this stuff, I mean seriously,” DeSantis said. “I mean, seriously, we just ran an election. We have this Georgia runoff coming, which is very important for Republicans to win.”
