Firefighters from Mexico have arrived in California to help fight the destructive fires.

Firefighters from Mexico just arrived at LAX. They’ll be joining 14,000+ personnel already battling the #PalisadesFire,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

“California is immensely grateful to our neighbors’ support in the fight against the wildfires in Los Angeles,” he added.

Per FOX 11 Los Angeles:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said firefighters from Mexico were en route Friday to help fight at least one of the fires devastating the Los Angeles area.

He said those coming to help from Mexico will be joining more than 10,000 personnel already on the ground.

They’d be heading to help battle the Eaton Fire, where more than 2,800 personnel were.

“Firefighters from Mexico are en route to the #EatonFire — joining more than 10,000 personnel already on the ground. California is deeply grateful for President @ClaudiaShein’s support as we work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires,” Newsom said.

“Our partnership and shared commitment to helping communities in need is greatly valued,” he added.

ABC 7 reports:

A humanitarian team from Mexico, deployed to fight the fires burning in Southern California, arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Gov. Gavin Newsom expressed his gratitude to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, as he welcomed more than 70 Mexican firefighters.

“Emergencies have no borders – we are deeply grateful to our neighbors in Mexico for their unwavering support during one of our greatest times of need,” Newsom said in a statement. “Thank you to President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for lending the best of the best.”

The firefighters will join more than 14,000 personnel already on the ground fighting the fires.

The governor originally said the firefighters would fight the Eaton Fire in Altadena, but because the Palisades Fire is continuing to spread near Brentwood, they will help assist with firefighting efforts there.

Canada is also expected to send aid to help extinguish the fires.
