President Trump has made Secretary of State Marco Rubio the acting administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
According to CBS News, Rubio confirmed the news himself to reporters traveling with him in El Salvador.

USAID reportedly will be merged into the State Department and face significant cuts to its workforce.

Officials in President Trump’s administration are expected to announce the moves in the coming days. Discussions about the extent of the funding reductions remained fluid on Monday.
Mr. Trump made Secretary of State Marco Rubio the acting administrator of USAID, sources said, and Rubio himself soon confirmed it to reporters traveling with him in El Salvador. ABC News earlier reported his status as chief. Rubio said he has designated his acting authority to handle day-to-day responsibilities to someone else, although he didn’t say whom.

Democrats protested against President Trump’s move to abolish the agency.
“Currently, a large number of Democrats and protesters have gathered outside the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) offices in Washington, D.C. in response to President Donald Trump’s move to abolish the agency,” Rawsalerts wrote.
“The decision has sparked widespread outrage, with critics arguing that dismantling USAID would undermine global humanitarian efforts, weaken U.S. foreign aid programs, and diminish America’s influence abroad,” the post added.

CNN reports:
The longtime international aid agency has found itself in the crosshairs of Trump and Musk’s effort to reform the federal government. Trump and his allies have said the agency, created by Congress as an independent body, is overtly partisan. Democrats have rejected that assertion and say Trump does not have the authority to dismantle the agency.
Later, Monday, Trump said he doesn’t need Congress to scrap the agency.
“Not when it comes to fraud. If there’s fraud, these people are lunatics,” Trump said when questioned by CNN’s Jeff Zeleny about his capacity to exact major changes to USAID.
“We just want to do the right thing. It’s something that should have been done a long time ago. Went crazy during the Biden administration. They went totally crazy what they were doing and the money they were giving to people that shouldn’t be getting,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
“We’ll be doing a report,” he went on. “We’ll be giving you that report at the appropriate time.”
Pressed about his support for USAID during his first term in office, Trump said he loved the “concept” but not the execution of the agency’s mission.
