Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura suggested that the state consider seceding and becoming part of Canada.
“How about since Trump dislikes Minnesota so bad and we’re so out of control, let’s join Canada,” Ventura said on The SpinSisters podcast.
“Instead of Canada becoming the 51st state of America and lose their healthcare like they said, they would never do that because they’d lose their healthcare. I’d like to see Minnesota, all of us become Canadians and make this part of Canada, because it’s obvious Donald Trump don’t want us,” he continued.
“It’s obvious that he’s ready to fracture the whole country for his own folly, whatever he is doing,” Ventura added.

More from the New York Daily News:
Minnesota shares a border with Canada that spans 547 miles. The state is home to nearly 12,000 lakes.
Ventura told local media earlier this month that the deployment of federal troops to U.S. cities has turned the nation into a “third-world country.”
The former governor, who left office in 2003 after serving only one term, also suggested his unhappiness with the state of the nation has him considering a return to politics.
“We have leadership now that has destroyed the Constitution. They don’t follow it, they could care less about it,” Ventura said earlier this month.
“I took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I view, after January 6th, the Republican party is a domestic enemy to our Constitution,” he added.

Ventura went on to say that he’s serious about officials reaching out to Canada to see if Canada would be willing to accept Minnesota into the country. However, there’s no chance that it could happen without approval from Congress or force.
An outspoken critic of Trump, Ventura verbally attacked the president throughout the interview placing blame for tensions in the state on Trump and accusing Trump of being a draft dodger. Ventura also said Trump made a mistake in making Minnesota the unofficial battleground for immigration reform in the U.S.
“He picked the wrong people I think to fight with. My first choice would not have been to pick Minnesota to do this. We Minnesotans, I mean, they elected me,” Ventura said. “We are a state of independent thinkers. We think for ourselves for the most part. We understand and we have pride in who we are.”
Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota in 1998 as a member of the Reform Party in a surprising upset. Ventura did not seek a second term as governor and left political office in 2003.
Prior to his political career, Ventura served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1975 and was a member of the SEALs. Following his time in the Navy, Ventura became a professional wrestler, gaining international fame as Jesse “The Body” Ventura. He would spend years in the ring before transitioning to doing color commentary for the World Wrestling Federation, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment.
