Linda McMahon has just been confirmed to lead the Department of Education.
The Senate voted 51-45 to confirm former WWE CEO Linda McMahon as Education Secretary.

Keep in mind that President Trump has hinted at ending the Department of Education altogether – and McMahon has said that she backs this.

Linda McMahon, the former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) CEO, was offically sworn in to serve as the next Secretary of Education under President Donald Trump, who seeks to “immediately” close the department during his term.
The Senate confirmed McMahon to head the Department of Education on Monday evening 51-45, along party lines, the final hurdle of her confirmation process.
McMahon was sworn in shortly after the vote and will begin her official duties on Tuesday morning.
“I am deeply grateful to President Trump for his trust in me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Education. I am prepared to lead the Department in this transformational time and embrace the challenge to improve the education system for the more than 100 million children and college students who deserve better,” McMahon said in a statement after being confirmed.
Education is the issue that determines our national success and prepares American workers to win the future. Every decision made at the Department will be driven by a commitment to support meaningful learning and empower our most important stakeholders: students, families, and teachers,” McMahon added. “We will empower states and districts to have more say in what is working on the ground for students instead of bureaucratic edicts from Washington, D.C.”
Trump has said he wants to close the Education Department, and McMahon, in a letter to Democratic lawmakers, said she supports his position on the issue.

McMahon was sworn in as the13th secretary of Education shortly after the vote. Her new rolecomes as President Donald Trump has said he wants McMahon to “put herself out of a job” amid his ambitions to shutter the Education Department.
McMahon is a fierce Trump loyalist who co-chaired the Trump-Vance transition, served in the president’s first administration and chaired the Trump-aligned America First Policy Institute. Upon her swearing-in, she’ll be tasked with carrying out the president’s broad education agenda to dismantle the very agency she’s set to lead, bolster school choice and root out diversity, equity and inclusion in schools. It’s a directive she’s prepared to take on.
“The Department will be focused on advancing education freedom, not building up government-run systems. We will empower states and districts to have more say in what is working on the ground for students instead of bureaucratic edicts from Washington, D.C.,” McMahon said in a statement following her confirmation.
“President Trump pledged to make American education the best in the world, return education to the states where it belongs, and free American students from the education bureaucracy through school choice. I intend to make good on that promise.”
In further written responses to Democratic senators, McMahon said she “wholeheartedly” agrees with and supports the president’s objective that “bureaucracy in Washington should be abolished” when asked if she supports Trump’s calls to close the department.
Trump’s Education pick clinched the support of every Senate Republican present Monday, backing that was largely expected. Republican senators have touted McMahon’s prior administrative experience leading the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term as a plus for navigating the bureaucracy of the Education Department that many lawmakers feel has been mismanaged.
McMahon’s confirmation comes just as the Department of Education announced that they will be offering a whopping $25,000 for staffers to quit — today.
