The Department of Justice under the Trump Administration is proving to be a far different animal all together compared to that of the Biden years.

Gone are the days of DOJ lawyers spinning their wheels on selectively chosen political rivals.

Who would have ever thought, after the last few years of weaponized β€˜justice’, that the DEPARTMENT of Justice… would actually end up fixating on JUSTICE again?Β  (Wonders never cease!)

It’s with that flavor that the Assistant AG just told the local authorities in Portland β€” in the clearest language imaginable β€” to β€œBuckle up”, because it’s β€œFO time.”

And yes β€” I used quote marks because that’s EXACTLY what she said:

Since his re-election, President Trump hasn’t for one minute offered a limp-wristed response to crime in America.

And the unlawful chaos perpetuated by groups like Antifa have received nothing but the appropriate scorn from his Administration.

But not just in terms of platitudes β€” he backed it up by designating them a domestic terror organization.

Still, day after day and night after night multiple US cities have increasingly fallen into that same lawless chaos MADE POSSIBLE by local city and state officials of the Democrat persuasion.

At best, the Left-leaning mobs receive a free pass from local authorities; at worst… they are protected, even while more conservative (non-violent) voices are silenced.

The story of Nick Sortor’s recent arrest near the ICE facility in Portland may yet prove to be another one of those β€œturning points” that many have been keying up on since the attempted silencing of another conservative voice in that of Charlie Kirk, almost a month ago.

Sortor’s arrest Friday night kicked of a DOJ investigation, the aim of which is primarily to examine the allegations that conservative journalists are being singled out for arrest by Portland PD.

While the violent actors present during the nightly chaos-sessions in Portland usually escape carefree for their trouble.

Posted by Sortor after his release, here’s the moment Portland PD walked off with Nick in handcuffs…

Even though he was the one who allegedly took the brunt of an attack by that MOSTLY VIOLENT mob:

As a result, the full brunt of the DOJ’s federal authority is now fixated on Portland’s Police force.

That official inquiry was set in motion by Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General referenced earlier, when she β€˜signed, sealed, delivered’ a letter demanding ANSWERS from those Portland officials:

That’s a long list of disclosures demanded by the DOJ!

Here’s the full text of her letter, addressed to both the Portland City Attorney and the Portland Chief of Police:

Your immediate attention to this matter is required. We write regarding Portland Police Bureau’s (PPB) response to incidents surrounding the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland and, specifically, the City of Portland’s use of its policing powers in a manner that may be based on viewpoint discrimination. Specifically, three issues have been brought to our attention:

1. PPB reportedly arrested individuals who may have been involved in an altercation choosing to arrest Nick Sorter, but not others;

2. PPB reportedly failed to identify or arrest individuals who allegedly assaulted Katie Daviscourt, even after briefly detaining the individuals; and

3. The City of Portland reportedly has attempted to use its policing powers through a zoning enforcement action to limit ICE’s use of its Portland facility.

While we have not reached any conclusions on these allegations, we note a consistent theme in these three allegationsβ€”all three would choose one viewpoint over another. Moreover, the allegations implicate the City’s performance under the Settlement Agreement in the above-referenced case.

To address our compliance concerns raised by these allegations, we request the following, by no later than October 10, 2025:

1. The original, unredacted BWC recording of the officers involved in the observation of the incident involving Mr. Sorter, his arrest, and his processing following arrest;

2. The original, unredacted BWC recording of the officers involved in the observation of the incident involving Ms. Daviscourt, the brief detention of the alleged assailants, and any follow-up discussion regarding the incident at the scene;

3. All unredacted incident reports, force reports, arrest reports, general order reports, and after actions reviews of the incidents involving Mr. Sorter and Ms. Daviscourt;

4. All complaints received about the incidents involving Mr. Sorter and Ms. Daviscourt or the decision to target the ICE facility for zoning enforcement, and the City’s ongoing administrative investigation materials involving such complaints;

5. All non-attorney-client-privileged communications regarding the decision to target the ICE facility for zoning enforcement;

6. All non-attorney-client-privileged communications regarding directions to PPB officers responding to the protests at the ICE facilities in the last 30 days; and

7. Any documents or explanation that the City wants to provide to the United States in response to the above-listed allegations.

Please let us know if the City needs any clarification about these requests. Likewise, if the City cannot meet the deadline, please confer with us as soon as you become aware. We look forward to the City’s prompt response to this matter.

Sortor’s arrest presumably came moments after he grabbed an American flag out of the hands of a protester as it went up in flames.

He can be seen in this video, shared by Fox News’ Bill Melugin, who said in the post that Sortor had raised concerns that Portland PD might arrest him.

Fair warning β€” there’s some bad language here:

Β

Here’s the full text of Melugin’s post:

NEW: Last night at the Portland ICE building, we witnessed anti-ICE protesters burning an American flag. @nicksortor then grabbed it from them, put the flames out, and took away what was left of the flag. Nick was arrested later in the night by Portland PD after videos appear to show him surrounded by anti-ICE protesters. It’s unclear what exactly happened, we are working on getting in touch with him once he is released from custody.

We had seen Nick get surrounded and verbally threatened by protesters the previous night. He posted on X that he felt Portland PD would arrest him if he tried to defend himself.

It took barely 24 hours for President Trump’s DOJ to respond to the allegations of targeting by the Portland PD.

One of the key pieces of potential evidence demanded to be handed over in Harmeet Dhillon’s letter is the body camera footage captured by the police force of β€˜multiple journalists’ who have been arrested.

That’s according to this report in The Hill:

Harmeet Dhillon, the DOJ’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, β€œsigned, sealed [and] delivered!” a letter to Portland police about the investigation on Friday, according to a post from her X account.

In a separate post, Dhillon said she spoke with Nick Sortor, the influencer who was arrested outside an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on Thursday. She also said she talked to Attorney General Pam Bondi β€œabout what is happened in Portland and the urgent need for a federal civil rights investigation over there.”

β€œPortland is already under a failed consent decree for its failed police practices,” Dhillon said. β€œIt has been for over a decade now.”

The government has requested body camera footage and β€œdetails about why multiple journalists have been attacked there in Portland and the police seemed to do nothing about it,” wrote in the Friday letter.

She asked β€œfolks to stay tuned and have faith,” and that President Trump has deployed the U.S. National Guard to Portland β€œto feel safe from the scourge of antifa.”

Trump also directed his team at the White House to review any federal aid meant to go to Portland that can be cut.

β€œWe will not fund states that allow anarchy,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing on Friday. (Emphasis added.)

I highlighted that last section with a smile on my face.

How dare a President get a notion that he might limit the federal funding of entities just because he determines they are acting in the interest of anarchy rather than law and order!? (That’s pure sarcasm, in case it wasn’t obvious.)

But that’s exactly what President Trump has done… in accordance with the EXECUTIVE POWER granted to him by the Constitution in overseeing matters of national defense, among others.

I’m sure that’ll wind up on a court docket somewhere, and probably challenged in the Supreme Court along with all the rest of them β€” but that’s a different story, and we’ll bring you that news when it all goes down.

Check out this video report which, among other things, includes a moment that seems to have led up to the physical attack Sortor alleges he endured just before his arrest.

Police Chief Bob Day is also highlighted in this report from the local CBS affiliate in Portland completely dismissing all the allegations against his police force:

Meanwhile… I don’t reckon the DOJ will be keen on accepting Police Chief Day’s dismissive response.

If he responds to Harmeet Dhillon’s letter in the same tone he took in that clip, there might be a follow-up letter.

Or… a taped and transcribed interview with a Prosecutor?

Those unredacted reports, documents, and other potential evidence requested by the DOJ are expected to be delivered no later than next Friday, October the 10th β€”Β as reported by Fox News:

In a letter dated Friday to Portland City Attorney Robert Taylor and Police Chief Bob Day, Dhillon cited concerns about the police response to several incidents, including the arrest of a conservative journalist and police actions allegedly limiting the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) use of its Portland facility.

Dhillon’s office requested unredacted incident reports related to the use of force, arrests and other actions and communications regarding directions given to police officers responding to protests at ICE facilities within the past 30 days.

Dhillon requested that her office be provided the materials no later than Oct. 10.

The city received the inquiry while its lawyers were in court attempting to stop the deployment of National Guard troops to help protect federal property.

β€œWe are still reviewing this inquiry and do not have a comment at this time on specific requests lodged by the federal government,” the city said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. β€œWhat we can say is this: Mayor Wilson has full faith in the Portland Police Bureau’s commitment to protecting public safety, upholding the rights of all individuals to lawfully assemble and impartially enforcing the law.”

The review comes after conservative journalist Nick Sortor was taken into custody late Thursday night while documenting the protests in Portland, something Leavitt described as an β€œextremely troubling incident.” She said the Department of Justice spoke with Sortor Friday morning and β€œwill be launching a full investigation into his arrest.”

β€œThis incident is part of a troubling trend in Portland, where left-wing mobs believe they get to decide who can visit and live in their city. It is not their city; it is the American people’s city, and President Trump is going to restore that,” Leavitt said. (Emphasis added.)

It has to be the height of irony that as the DOJ’s letter is being delivered to Portland authorities to ensure the local leo’s aren’t focused on the wrong thing…

The city’s lawyers are out of the office, involved in a court proceeding where they are fixated on stopping President Trump from CLEANING UP THEIR CITY.

I, for one, can’t wait to find out what’s in those arrest reports and bodycam footage detailing the arrests of journalists.

And if any reason pops up regarding why the Left-leaning mobs are almost never arrested by the locals.

But I also have a sneaking suspicion that some of those pieces of would-be evidence might wind up missing, or otherwise destroyed… if they indeed tell the tale the DOJ is trying to sniff out.

We’ll bring you that story when it breaks.
