The Islamic Republic of Iran has launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East after the U.S. and Israel launched a military operation to take down Tehran’s regime and prevent the country from obtaining nuclear power.

Drone strikes from Iran targeted U.S. military facilities in multiple Middle Eastern countries on Saturday, with explosions reported in or near Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Jordan. Several governments’ air defense systems were reportedly able to intercept projectiles, though they expressed outrage over the attacks.

Naval Support Activity Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, reported at least one explosion in the area, according to Reuters.

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s news agency announced that it ” strongly condemned and denounced the treacherous Iranian missile attacks,” as they are a “flagrant violation” of the “sovereignty, security and stability” of several countries.

“These attacks constituted a serious threat to the safety and lives of civilians and residents and demonstrated blatant disregard for international law, established norms and the principles of good neighborliness,” the kingdom stated, calling for the “international community to condemn this criminal aggression and take an immediate and decisive stance.”

Al Udeid Air Base in Doha, Qatar, the Air Force’s largest base in the region was also reportedly targeted, though air defenses intercepted some Iranian missiles. Doha also hosts U.S. Central Command.

Qatar called for “efforts to contain the crisis in a manner that preserves the security of the region, safeguards the interests of its peoples, and prevents a slide into broader confrontations.”

The country reported that the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, had phone called with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, French President Emmanuel Macron, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al NahyanEgyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Iraqui Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, Kuwait Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, United Kingdom Prime Minister Kier Starmer and several other world leaders to discuss the evolving situation in the region.

It also announced a temporary suspension of flights to and from Doha.

Camp Arifjan and Ali al Salem Air Base in Kuwait reported missiles flying in their airspace and explosions heard.

Iranian attacks in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, were successfully blocked.

Saudi Arabia announced its support for countries defending themselves from Iranian attacks.

“Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Kingdom’s full solidarity with the countries concerned and its firm support for them, stating that it would mobilize all its capabilities to assist them in any measures they undertake,” the ministry said in a statement.

In another statement, the kingdom condemned the attacks as unjustifiable.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of the blatant and cowardly Iranian attacks that targeted the Riyadh Region and the Eastern Province, which were successfully intercepted,” it wrote. “These attacks cannot be justified under any pretext or in any way whatsoever, and they came despite the Iranian authorities’ knowledge that the Kingdom had affirmed it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran.”

Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE said ballistic missiles were launched at the base, and despite intercepting many, debris and at least five blasts were reported by Reuters. The UAE’s Ministry of Home Affairs announced zero injuries or property damage, however.

The UAE stated that “any infringement on the sovereignty of any state constitutes a direct threat to the security and stability of the entire region,” asserting that its security is “indivisible” from its neighbors.

“The UAE will not tolerate any compromise to its security or sovereignty under any circumstances,” the country stated.
