White House officials blasted Amazon for reportedly planning to display โtariff pricesโ next to the total cost for products on its website.
โI just got off the phone with the president about the Amazon announcement. This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,โ White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
โWhy didnโt Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?โ she continued.
โAs Reuters recently wrote, Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm,โ she added.

Per CNBC:
Shares of the online retail giant founded by Jeff Bezos dropped more than 2% in premarket trading immediately following the remarks.
An Amazon spokesperson told CNBC later Tuesday morning that the company was only ever considering listing tariff charges on some products for Amazon Haul, its budget-focused shopping section.
โThe team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered listing import charges on certain products,โ the spokesperson said. โThis was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties.โ
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in an X post called Amazonโs statement a โgood move.โ

Axios reports:
Amazon spokesperson Tim Doyle told Axios in a statement that while โ[t]he team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products,โ it was โnever a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties.โ
Punchbowl reported Tuesday that Amazon would soon show how much of an itemโs cost is due to tariffs next to the total listed price.
CEOs of three of the nationโs biggest retailers (Walmart, Target and Home Depot) also recently warned Trump his policies could hurt supply chains, empty shelves and increase prices, Axiosโ Marc Caputo and Ben Berkowitz reported.
That pressure coincided with the White House softening its tone on trade talks with China.
