According toΒ Fox News, a high-ranking Secret Service member has been asked to retire.

β€œMichael Plati, the office of protective operations assistant director, has been asked to retire from his position, and he is ending his tenure with the service in the coming days,” Fox NewsΒ stated.

The request is reportedly related to the attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Fox News reports:

The USSS is preparing to brief Congress in the coming days about lessons learned from the July 13 attempt on Trump’s life.

Plati was asked to step down by senior leadership, including acting Director Ronald Rowe.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the USSS for comment and is awaiting its response.

An agent who asked to remain anonymous was not happy about Plati’s retirement. β€œMike Plati is known for his integrity and honesty, qualities that are especially commendable at his level of leadership within the Secret Service,” the agent told Fox News.

USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in July under immense pressure following the agency’s catastrophic failures.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe told senators the security failures on July 13th weren’t due to insufficient funding.

β€œWhile the reviews and investigations are ongoing, we do not believe the security failure of July 13, 2024 was the result of a lack of resources,” Rowe wrote in a letter, according toΒ Roll Call.

Per Roll Call:

Sens. Christopher S. Murphy of Connecticut and Katie Britt of Alabama, the top Senate appropriators for homeland security, asked the Secret Service last month about its level of resources amid the 2024 election and whether insufficient funds have stymied the agency.

A Murphy aide told CQ Roll Call on Monday the two senators have received a response from Secret Service, but scrutiny of the agency’s budget continues.

β€œAs the Committee continues to work on the FY25 appropriations bill for Homeland Security, the Members and staff will review the information provided by USSS and determine appropriate next steps to ensure the agency it is able to fulfill its mission of protecting our country’s leaders, presidential candidates, and their families,” the Murphy aide said.
