Prior to his entry into politics, Vice President JD Vance was known as the author of the bestselling book “Hillbilly Elegy.”

The 2016 memoir became a film four years later, starring Gabriel Basso as the author.

Since then, Vance was elected to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate and took the oath of office to serve as President Donald Trump’s vice president earlier this month.

An AP reporter caught up with Basso and asked if he had “any regrets” in retrospect, and the actor bucked Hollywood’s tendency to instinctively trash conservatives.

As Breitbart reported:

“That’s a wild historical thing that I’ve now done,” Basso laughed, to which the Associated Press asked, “Any regrets?”

“No,” the actor replied. “I mean, at the time, he wasn’t even in politics.”

“It’d be like asking somebody, ‘Do you regret being a friend to whoever in middle school?’ It’s like, you just knew them, and you worked with them and you were a part of their life and everything,” he added.

Basso echoed his sentiments in another recent interview, telling Variety, “It’s kind of weird to be included in that timeline. When he’s thinking about his life — they made a movie of his book, and my name will always be in the description.”

The actor added that he and Vance had “talked a little bit” before the film was shot.

“He’s a cool dude,” Basso said. “We’re both from the Midwest. We just talked about life — about growing up in the woods.”

Vance withstood a concerted attack from the left as he campaigned with Trump ahead of November’s election. Nevertheless, his communication style attracted significant support along the way:

Vance has continued to clearly present the Trump administration’s agenda to the American people, as he demonstrated in a recent interview with CBS News’ Margaret Brennan.

According to The Hill:

Vice President Vance said in an interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan that prices will start coming down, but it might not happen immediately.

“Prices are going to come down, but it’s going to take a little bit of time,” Vance told Brennan in an interview that aired Sunday. “The president has been president for all of five days. I think that in those five days, he’s accomplished more than Joe Biden did in four years.”

“It’s been an incredible breakneck pace of activity. We’re going to work with Congress. We’re of course going to have more executive orders,” he said.

Brennan noted that President Trump and Vance campaigned on lowering grocery prices for Americans. Asked which of the executive orders that Trump signed when taking office addresses prices, Vance said several “have caused, already, jobs to start coming back into our country, which is a core part of lowering prices.”
