Sometimes the past makes its way into the future.
Thatβs precisely the case in the state of Florida.
Florida has enacted a new bill to make gold and silver as useful as the U.S. dollar.
Gold and silver can soon be used for a plethora of purchases.
Fox News broke down the new law:
The State of Florida is taking a big step towards making precious metals just as useful as cash.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Tuesday to start the process of making gold and silver legal tender in Florida.
Starting July 1 of next year, the bill requires all coins to be stamped with weight, purity and mint of origin.
It specifies that using it, or accepting it, is optional.
Purchases of precious metal would be exempt from sales taxes, but gold and silver could be used to pay other kinds of taxes.
βWeβve really led the way on protecting your economic independence and your financial sovereignty,β said DeSantis.
The governor argues metals are a protection against a falling dollar, which he sees as a risk given perennial deficit spending in Washington.
He points out gold has tripled in value since 2015, while, because of inflation, paper money is buying less.
Florida stands firmly for freedom, economic self-determination, and resistance to government overreach. But for too long, outdated regulations and unnecessary sales taxes have made it impractical for Floridians to enter the gold and silver market. Florida is not the only state making gold and silver legal tender.
The state of Missouri recently passed a bill to do the same.
Per The Kansas City Star:
Shoppers in Kansas City and across Missouri could soon be able to pay for their groceries and pay taxes with gold and silver. Missouri lawmakers this week, in a move that surprised some, approved a controversial bill that would make gold and silver legal tender in the state.
The legislation, which passed both chambers of the General Assembly as an amendment to a sweeping finance-related bill, is headed to Republican Gov. Mike Kehoeβs desk.
The Republican-led legislation would require state government entities to accept electronic versions of gold and silver, called βelectronic specie currency,β as forms of payment for taxes and public debts. While the measure would not require businesses to accept gold and silver as payment for private uses, such as groceries, it would allow them to do so. βThe goal is about restoring economic and political freedom back to everyday Missourians,β Rep. Bill Hardwick, a Dixon Republican who sponsored a version of the bill, told The Star at the state Capitol.

Did you know that at one time, Americans were forced to turn over their gold?
HISTORY
All Americans were required to turn in their gold on or before May 1, 1933 to the Federal Reserve in return for $20.67 of paper money per troy ounce
Americans who did not turn in their gold were subject to arrest on criminal charges and faced up to 10 years in prison pic.twitter.com/FAuISWDzry
