Former Mediaite editor Jon Nicosia reported Thursday that an anonymous source from Comcast told him Joy Reid would be let go by MSNBC soon. Nicosia tweeted, “Joy Reid will lose her 7p show in the next round of reshuffling at MSNBC. She does not have a show come mid Spring,” and the “decision has been made, the only thing left is messaging on the move, which will be ratings.”
Nicosia continued, “as was the case with Chris Cuomo at CNN, Reid has allies at Comcast, however, she is now viewed as ‘unmanageable’ by many. Also, similar to Cuomo, it appears those allies have found out she has been ‘less than truthful about past incidents.” He added that, similar to the Cuomo situation, he expects “MSNBC/Comcast to defend her right until the announcement.”

I had the scoop last year Chris Cuomo was going to get axed by CNN and then after he was suspended got the scoop he was not coming back. I got very few personal attacks from his fans. Joy Reid’s fans however. Lord. 🤦🏻
Nicosia’s report, which has yet to be confirmed, comes on the heels of a similar report he issued late the year before. In November, Nicosia tweeted “there is serious talk all the way up the chain at Comcast about Joy Reid’s future at MSNBC.” He added, “audio coming Monday” on November 24th yet no audio was ever published.

Low ratings for Joy Reid’s current namesake show, which premiered in the top place in the ratings on July 20, 2020, would be a reasonable cause for the show to be canceled. “The ReidOut” rated 16th among all cable news shows in terms of audience size last year, with an average of 1.44 million people. However, Reid’s audience has shrunk by 56 percent since January of last year. Reid’s 7 p.m. show, which airs just outside prime time, is consistently outperformed in the ratings by Ari Melber’s 6 p.m. show and Nicolle Wallace’s “Deadline: White House,” which airs at 4 p.m. when many potential viewers are at work.
