Leftist pundits and politicians used to downplay the border crisis when it was mostly Republican-led states that were being inundated by an unchecked stream of immigrants.
Now that so-called โsanctuary citiesโ have to deal with the influx too, suddenly their perspective has changed. That shift was evident in Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adamsโ recent remarks about how tens of thousands of migrants have utterly disrupted life in the nationโs most populous city.
According to TheBlaze:
At a town hall on the Upper West Side Wednesday night, Adams stressed that โthis issue will destroy New York City.โ
โLet me tell you something, New Yorkers: never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I donโt see an ending to this,โ said Adams. โWeโre getting 10,000 migrants a month. One time, we were just getting Venezuela. Now weโre getting Ecuador. Now weโre getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico. Now weโre getting Western Africa. Now weโre getting people from all over the globe that made their minds up that theyโre gonna come through the southern border and coming to New York City.โ
The New York Times indicated that over 100,000 illegal aliens have stormed the city, overwhelming services intended for down and out American citizens. Having had its 200 shelters maxed out, the city has been dumping illegal aliens into humanitarian centers, converted hotels, school gymnasiums, and religious buildings, as well as imploring citizens to do what Adams is unwilling to do himself: bring the unwelcome guests into their homes.
Photos and videos on social media reveal just how dire the situation has gotten thanks to sanctuary city protections and the Biden administrationโs lax immigration and border policies.
New York City:
The migrant crisis continues as dozens of scooters belonging to asylum seekers line the sidewalk outside the Roosevelt Hotel and 19,000 migrant children started school today.

NEW: Erie County New York, a deep blue county, will no longer accept illegal immigrants from New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ resettlement program after another migrant has been charged with sexual assault.

At first, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was a hotel concierge for illegal immigrants. Now, 110,000 migrants later, Eric Adams is begging for mercy. New York City has become unrecognizable with migrants lining the sidewalks and camping outside five-star hotels.

Of course, Adamsโ rare moment of clarity on the issue has caused some on the left to disavow him entirely.
I have seen the Eric Adams clip claiming migrants will destroy New York City. It is awful. There is a reason why Republicans and far right folks are gleefully sharing it.
New York Dems could have had Maya Wiley as mayor but they went for the ridiculous Adams, a Trump knock-off.

Even though the mayor trashed Republicans for doing the same, he has increasingly pushed for the migrants in his city to be sent elsewhere.
According to the New York Post:
Mayor Adams wants Gov. Hochul to use an executive order to force communities outside of New York City to take in migrants and give the Big Apple $6.5 billion, according to a bombshell legal filing in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Hizzoner went so far as to recommend several state-controlled locations for new temporary shelters in Brentwood, Newburgh, King Parks, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.
โThe scale of the crisis โฆ demands State leadership of a statewide solution,โ wrote NYCโs Law Department.
