Could CNN be in hot water?
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said network employees may face prosecution due to a leak about the U.S. air strikes against Iran and an ICE tracking app.
“We’re working with the Department of Justice to see if we can prosecute them for that. Because what they’re doing is actively encouraging people to avoid law enforcement activities, operations,” Noem said during a visit to Alligator Alcatraz in Florida.
“We’re gonna actually go after them and prosecute them with the partnership of [Attorney General] Pam [Bondi] if we can,” she added.
“They may be prosecuted also for having given false reports on the attack in Iran,” Trump commented.

Further details from the New York Post:
It’s unclear what crimes CNN journalists allegedly committed with the reporting.
The outlet’s Monday article on the app ICEBlock describes how users can relay sightings of immigration officials — akin to better-known apps that allow users to report locations of speed traps and other police tactics.
Trump has fumed at CNN over its reporting on a “top secret” preliminary assessment of damage to three Iranian nuclear sites following US airstrikes for minimizing the impact.
Journalists can legally report on classified material, but soliciting the material or instructing sources on how to retrieve it has opened the door to federal investigation and punishment.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said “it sounds like this would be an incitement of further violence against our ICE officers.”
“We’ll take a look at it but certainly it’s unacceptable that a major network would promote such an app,” she added.

Newsweek noted:
The ICEBlock app’s emergence has highlighted growing tensions over U.S. immigration enforcement as the Trump administration intensifies its deportation efforts and reports an increase in assaults on its agents.
CNN’s reporting on the U.S. strikes in Iran—that they were not as successful as first reported—drew criticism from Trump and others within the administration.
The ICEBlock app started in April as a way to crowdsource sightings of federal agent activity. It is one of a few apps that have been used to alert people to sightings since enforcement actions ramped up.
CNN reported on the app last week, with creator Joshua Aaron saying he did not want it to be used by people seeking to target ICE agents, instead helping them to avoid them if they wanted.
The White House has accused ICEBlock of seeking to sabotage DHS efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.
As for CNN’s coverage of the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, the White House has denounced the reporting and Trump has repeated his claims of “fake news” on his social media platform Truth Social.
Part of the anger at the reporting came from an intelligence document being “leaked” to CNN and The New York Times. Both outlets said they stood by their reporting.
