Two-term GOP Senator Tom Cotton will face Democrat challenger Hallie Shoffner in the November 3rd midterm elections for the U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas.

Cotton (R-Ark.) and Shoffner (D-Ark.) both secured the nominations in their respective primary elections, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday night.

Cotton, 48, won the GOP primary in a landslide with 81.58% of the vote to Micah Ashby’s 9.24% and Jeb Little’s 9.18%. Shoffner also took a strong lead in the Democrat election with 78.21% of the vote to Ethan Dunbar’s 21.79%.

Senator Cotton has built a reputation as a staunch conservative heavyweight, particularly regarding his hardline stance on illegal immigration. A vocal ally of the Trump administration, he has consistently championed DHS enforcement policies and border security initiatives. Additionally, in his current role as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, his common sense legislative priorities have expanded significantly into areas of national security, energy, and judicial reform.

Meanwhile, representing the next generation of Arkansas agriculture is 37-year-old Shoffner. As a sixth-generation farmer and the CEO of Delta Harvest, the Democrat candidate has focused her campaign on “lowering the cost of living and supporting local businesses and workers,” specifically farmers and rural communities. She has also declared that “Quality of life in Arkansas has gone DOWN during [Cotton’s] tenure.”

After the Democrat race was called in Shoffner’s favor, she took to X to thank her voters overnight on Tuesday.

“Thank you, Arkansas, for trusting me with this race!” she wrote. “’I Believe in Arkansas’ was Governor Mike Beebe’s campaign slogan when he ran for governor. He gave me his blessing to carry it forward. Because I do believe in Arkansas, and we deserve better than Tom Cotton.”
