The Republican Party of New Mexico said its headquarters in Albuquerque was targeted in a “deliberate act of arson.”

“Early this morning, the entryway of the Republican Party of New Mexico’s headquarters in Albuquerque was destroyed in a deliberate act of arson which also included spray painting the words ‘ICE=KKK.’ This horrific attack, fueled by hatred and intolerance, is a direct assault on our values, freedoms, and our right to political expression,” the Republican Party of New Mexico stated.

Full statement:

Early this morning, the entryway of the Republican Party of New Mexico’s headquarters in Albuquerque was destroyed in a deliberate act of arson which also included spray painting the words ‘ICE=KKK.’ This horrific attack, fueled by hatred and intolerance, is a direct assault on our values, freedoms, and our right to political expression.

This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a disturbing pattern of politically motivated violence that has plagued our country—fueled in part by the silence and implicit encouragement from progressive leaders who refuse to condemn these acts. Their failure to stand against political violence has created an environment where attacks like this are not only possible but increasingly frequent.

“We are deeply relieved that no one was harmed in what could have been a tragic and deadly attack. Those who resort to violence to undermine our state and nation must be held accountable, and our state leaders must reinforce through decisive action that these cowardly attacks will not be tolerated,” said Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Amy Barela. “We are working closely with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), local law enforcement, and federal investigators. We are committed to providing every piece of evidence necessary to bring those responsible to justice and ensure they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We will not allow New Mexico’s broken criminal justice system to dilute the seriousness of this attack. The Republican Party of New Mexico will not be silenced. We will emerge from this stronger, more united, and more determined to fight for the people of New Mexico and the future of our country. Let us not forget: it was the Democrat Party that once supported the formation of the KKK, pushed Jim Crow laws, and defended slavery. Today, we see the same dangerous tendencies play out in new forms—attempts to suppress free speech, silence dissent, and use fear to control the political narrative. Our fight is not just for our party—it’s for every New Mexican who wants a safer, freer, and more accountable state. We will never back down.”

Fox News reports:

The alleged incident happened early Sunday morning after the organization shared images showing the damage to the entryway of the building.

The Albuquerque Fire Department also confirmed the alleged attack, saying they were dispatched to the call right before 6 a.m. and said the fire was brought under control within five minutes of fire crews’ arrival, the department said in a post on their Facebook page.

The structure suffered damage to the front entryway and smoke damage throughout the building, the department said, and added that there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters reported.

The fire department, along with the Albuquerque Police Department, said this is an active and ongoing joint FBI/ATF investigation.

From the Albuquerque Journal:

The Democratic Party of New Mexico condemns “any vandalism at the Republican Party of New Mexico headquarters as strongly as possible,” spokesperson Daniel Garcia said in a statement.

“We firmly maintain that this sort of act has absolutely no place in our democracy, and that peaceful discourse and organization are the only ways to approach political differences in our country,” Garcia said. “We hope whoever is responsible is found and held accountable.”

Just before 6 a.m., Sunday, AFR and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue responded to a call of a structure fire in the 5100 block of San Francisco NE, near Jefferson.

The fire was brought under control within five minutes, but not before the entryway was destroyed and the building sustained smoke damage, according to AFR.

Along with fire and smoke damage, someone painted “ICE=KKK” on the side of the building.

Sen. Jay Block, R-Rio Rancho, said when he saw the damage he immediately thought of “domestic terrorism.”

“We just saw it recently over at Tesla and now, we’re seeing it here,” he said. “And hopefully this is the last time we ever see it in our state.”

The investigation is being handled by the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Rebecca Atkins said.
