“This is according to the country’s power operator,” CNN stated.
“It’s the first nationwide blackout since the U.S. effectively shut off the flow of oil to Cuba,” it added.

Reuters confirmed:
Cuba’s national electric grid collapsed on Monday, the country’s grid operator said, leaving around 10 million people amid a U.S.-imposed oil blockade that has crippled the island’s already obsolete generation system.
Cuba’s grid operator UNE said on social media it was investigating the causes of the blackout, the latest in a series of widespread outages that stem for hours or days and that this weekend spared a rare violent protest in the Communist-run country.
The United States has tightened the screws this year on long-time foe Cuba since capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro – Cuba’s most important foreign benefactor – in early January.
U.S. President Donald Trump cut off Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba and threatened to slap tariffs on any country that sells oil to Cuba, strangling the island’s already antiquated grid.
Cuba said on Friday that it had entered into talks with the U.S. with the hope of defusing the crisis.
“These talks have been aimed at finding solutions through dialogue to the bilateral differences we have between the two nations,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said last week.
Trump Administration Engaged In “Serious” Negotiations With Cuba, Officials Confirm
Trump said last week that Cuba is “at the end of the line.”
“They have no money. They have no oil. They have a bad philosophy. They have a bad regime that’s been bad for a long time,” he added.

More from the Associated Press:
The Ministry of Energy and Mines on X noted a “complete disconnection” of the country’s electrical system and said it was investigating.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday said the island had not received oil shipments in more than three months and was operating on solar power, natural gas and thermoelectric plants, and the government has had to postpone surgeries for tens of thousands of people.
A massive outage over a week ago affected the island’s west, leaving millions without power.
