When President Trump retakes office in January, he regains the power to grant pardons.

According to reports, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, could be among the individuals hoping to receive a pardon from Trump.

Adams is the first sitting NYC mayor to be indicted on federal charges.

A 57-page indictment accuses the Democrat mayor of conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery charges.

From The Hill:

Trump has publicly empathized with New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) after federal prosecutors unsealed corruption charges against him.

“He was honest, and I said he will be indicted within a year, and that’s what happened,” Trump said in September. “And I noticed the indictment is very old. It goes back a long time. Well, I had the same thing they got, they went way before the statute of limitations. So, I wish him well.”

During an appearance on CNN last week, anchor Wolf Blitzer repeatedly pressed Adams on whether he has discussed a pardon with Trump, given that the mayor has repeatedly emphasized he wants to work with the president-elect. The mayor deflected and said his legal team will handle his case.

“I don’t go into private conversations, but that is not on my agenda,” Adams said of a pardon.

WCAX reports:

The former president faced his own charges from the Department of Justice and vocally criticized the agency, accusing them of acting on the Biden administration’s orders.

After pleading not guilty, Mayor Eric Adams is echoing those sentiments, saying the indictment comes after he criticized the White House for its handling of the migrant crisis in New York City.

“Mayor Adams has been treated pretty badly. You know, when he said that this whole thing with the migrants coming into New York, this is just not sustainable. He said it very nicely. I said, well, he’s gonna be indicted by these lunatics. A year later he got indicted,” said Trump.

It’s not clear if President-elect Trump would use his power to rescue the high-profile Democrat from the indictment.
