Nicholas Roske, the man who attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh back in 2022, has just been handed an incredibly light sentence.
Judge Deborah Boardman, a Biden appointee, sentenced Roske to 97 months — just over eight years — in prison for his plot to murder a Supreme Court Justice.
Why was she so lenient, you may ask?
Did I mention Roske now identifies as a woman and goes by the name “Sophie”?
The judge cited the fact that Roske is a so-called ‘transgender’ as part of her reasoning for giving him a lower sentence.
Unreal. The attempted assassin put not only Justice Kavanaugh’s life at risk, but his family’s and his fellow justices’.
Judge Boardman’s explanation for granting Roske leniency is absurd — so, claiming you are transgender gets you less time in prison? That’s a great incentive… pic.twitter.com/oFBMQVTFFQ

Unreal. The attempted assassin put not only Justice Kavanaugh’s life at risk, but his family’s and his fellow justices’.
Judge Boardman’s explanation for granting Roske leniency is absurd — so, claiming you are transgender gets you less time in prison? That’s a great incentive program.
What an outrageously dangerous signal to send as political violence is on the rise.
This sentence is a disgrace.
Fox News confirmed:
During the hearing, Boardman referred to Roske as a transgender woman, and Roske’s attorneys told the court recently that while their client’s legal name is Nicholas, Roske goes by the name Sophie and uses female pronouns.
Boardman, a Biden appointee, said she factored into the sentence her concern about Trump’s executive order requiring transgender inmates to be detained in prisons that correspond to their sex at birth.
Roske pleaded guilty in April to one charge of attempting to murder a Supreme Court justice, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
On June 8, 2022, Roske flew from California to Virginia and took a taxi to Kavanaugh’s address, armed with a pistol, knife, lock picking set, duct tape, hammer, crowbar and tactical gear.
In the weeks leading up to the incident, the defendant searched extensively online for information about several justices, mass shooters, ways to harm people and graphic images of people with knife wounds. One search read, “Does twisting or dragging a knife cause more damage.”
Roske’s internet history also signaled a desire to affect the outcome of the then-looming Dobbs decision, in which the Supreme Court was expected to overturn the federal right to abortion.
The assassination attempt came at a time when activists were protesting in front of conservative justices’ homes, leading the DOJ to deploy U.S. marshals to their houses to provide around-the-clock security.
Roske acknowledged noticing marshals at Kavanaugh’s house, which prosecutors said prompted Roske to change course and walk down the street before self-reporting to 911.
We live in a very mad world…
Based on his charges, Roske was facing a minimum of 30 years in prison, up to a life sentence.
However, thanks to this Biden judge, he’s not even getting half of the sentence he deserves.

During the sentencing, Judge Boardman recognized that Roske is a terrorist.
And yet, she was more concerned with the fact that he might not receive proper ‘gender-affirming’ care in the all-male prison he’s being sent to.
So, she decided to cut him some slack.
Isn’t that nice?
Politico has more:
Boardman said her decision to sentence Roske well below federal sentencing guidelines was driven in large part by Roske’s decision to turn herself into police after she approached Kavanaugh’s residence with a gun, other weapons and tools in the middle of the night three years ago.
“This is an atypical defendant and an atypical case. … Though she got far too close to executing her plans, the fact remains she abandoned them,” said Boardman, a Biden appointee. “Sophie Roske’s admission of guilt and effort to come clean did not occur after or even because she was caught in the act by police. … If she had not called 911, law enforcement would never have known about Sophie Roske and her plot to kill a Supreme Court justice.”
Boardman called the crime an act of terrorism and said the eight-year sentence should convey that Roske’s actions were intolerable.
Boardman also said the incident inflicted “real harm” and “anxiety” on Kavanaugh and his family. “He’s a justice on the Supreme Court but he’s a human being, he’s a public servant and he and his family should never have to face the fear of threat because he does his job,” the judge said.
In a tearful statement to the court just before the judge delivered her sentence, Roske expressed deep regret over the incident, which she suggested was driven by a mental health crisis.
“I sincerely apologize to the justice and his family for the considerable distress I put them through,” Roske said, standing at the defense table in a yellow jail uniform. “I have been portrayed as a monster, and this tragic mistake I made will follow me for the rest of my life. I also realized how twisted my thinking and sense of self can become when my mental health is at its worst.”
Defense attorneys disclosed to the court last month that Roske is transgender and now uses the first name Sophie and female pronouns. Defense lawyers and family members did so Friday during their presentation, while the prosecutor who spoke at the sentencing generally avoided the issue by referring to Roske as “the defendant.”
During Friday’s hearing, Boardman questioned whether Roske would receive adequate mental health treatment in federal prison. The judge referenced President Donald Trump’s executive order banning gender-affirming care for federal inmates.
“Let’s not hide the fact that there’s an executive order on this specific topic,” Boardman said.
A lawyer for Roske, Assistant Federal Defender Andrew Szekely, said he is confident that the Bureau of Prisons will give Roske the medicine she requires, but “beyond that little is sure.”
When delivering the sentence, the judge said she took Roske’s transgender status into account, although she didn’t say how much weight she gave to that issue.
“I take into consideration the conditions of pre-trial confinement and the fact that she is a transgender woman and will be sent to a male-only [Bureau of Prisons] facility,” Boardman said.
Beyond the obvious ridiculousness and insanity of this ruling, what’s even more concerning is the example this judge just set.
Are more would-be killers or even actual murderers going to get off easy for identifying as trans?
What’s to stop (alleged) Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson, for instance, from suddenly changing his name to “Taylor” and saying he’s now a woman in hopes of getting a lower sentence from a judge who cares more about affirming genders than holding criminals accountable?
This will embolden Tyler Robinson to go trans before sentencing.

This is an incredibly dangerous precedent that cannot be allowed to stand.
