Dylan Efron had his head in the game during Season 34 of โDancing With the Stars.โ
So much so, that his older brother Zac Efron made his highly-anticipated debut in the ballroom for Prince Night in November.
During the semi-finals, cameras caught the โHigh School Musicalโ actor, 38, seemingly questioning how the scoring worked after Dylan, 33, and his partner Danielle Karagachโs dance.
โZac got defensive,โ the reality star recalled on Tuesdayโs episode ofย โThe Smith Sisters Live.โ
Dylan explained that his siblings was genuinely curious and inquired: โIs that a good score?โ
The podcast host said that viewers thought Zac had asked, โIs that their high score?โ
โI actually did speak to Zac about this,โ Dylan continued. โBut then Zac was like, โOh, no.โ Heโs like, โTheyโre misinterpreting it.โ And I canโt remember what he was saying, but I think he said that he thought it was a really good dance. So heโs like, โIs that the highest score they would give?’โ
The โTraitorsโ alum and Karagach, 32, performed a cha-cha to Princeโs 1986 track โKissโ and a tango to the late musicianโs hit song โI Would Die 4 Uโ (1984).
They scored a 27 out of 30 and ultimately finished the season in fourth place.
โSo I think he was more like that should have been higher or something like that,โ Dylan detailed. โIt was funny regardless, but Zac got defensive. Heโs like, โNo, they misinterpreted what I meant!’โ
During Prince Night, Zac wrote on his Instagram Story: โVote for @dylanefron tonight onย DWTS! Text โDylanโ to 21523 ten times.โ
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight after the semi-finals, the influencer said it โmeans everythingโ to have had Zac there supporting him.
โI grew up watching him do stuff like this. Looking over, my familyโs there, my girlfriend. Just seeing all of them together, thatโs my support.โ
In October, Dylan paid tribute to the actor by dancing to โRewrite The Starsโ on Dedication Night.
The song was a duet between Zac andย Zendaya in 2017โs โThe Greatest Showman.โ
โNow, being able to dance to โRewrite the Stars,โ this is a nod to my brother,โ the ABC star gushed during the Oct. 14 episode. โZacโs always taken care of me and he did things that were so selfless. I wanna be that to [our sister]ย Olivia, I wanna be the best role model I can.โย
Zac and Dylanโs parents, Starla Baskett and David Efron, split in 2016, with David remarrying and welcoming daughter Olivia and son Henry.
Dylan performed on Dedication night with Olivia, 5.
A week later, the star revealed why Zac hadnโt been in the ballroom just yet.
โHey, heโs doing his thing,โ he toldย Extraย after his Oct. 21 performance. โ[But heโs] supporting me every day.โ
Despite not scoring as high as Zac would have liked in the semi-finals, Dylan did make it to the finale.
He competed against fellow celebsย Robert Irwin,ย Alix Earle,ย Jordan Chilesย andย Elaine Hendrix.
โMy whole life, I watched my brother perform,โ the YouTuber said during his pre-taped package that night. โI never wanted to be in the spotlight, and the fact that I can step out onstage and capture peopleโs attention truly gives me chills. I finally feel like I belong here.โ
Irwin, 21, and his pro partner, Witney Carson, ultimately won the Mirrorball on Nov. 24.
Over the years, Dylan has opened up about his tight-knit bond with Zac. However, they werenโt always close.
Dylan confessed in 2021 that he and Zac โwere always fighting with each otherโ when they were kids, and called one another โso different.โ
โThen once I graduated college, Zac really took me under his wing and let me live with him when I got my first job in Los Angeles,โ Dylan toldย BroBible. โHe really became that older brother, and thatโs when I would say we grew closer than ever. Our relationship was something that developed more as we both became adults and stopped fighting so much.โ
