Alicia Silverstone has a funny story about her time guest-starring on βThe Wonder Yearsβ more than 30 years ago.
During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly published Friday, Aug. 15, the βCluelessβ actress explained why the showβs star, Fred Savage, thought she gave him a fake phone number after they first met on set in 1992.
βFred Savageβs character asks me on a date and I say, βPick me up at seven,β or something,β Silverstone began. βAnd thatβs what makes him decide he needs to get on it and learn how to drive.β
The Season 5 episode in question, titled βRoad Test,β marked Silverstoneβs first-ever onscreen acting role. She played Jessica Thomas, the high school crush of Kevin Arnold (Savage).
βFred asked me for my number, which was really sweet, because I was 14,β Silverstone continued. βMy home phone number was also a fax machine of my dadβs work.β
βSo he had tried calling that a few times, and it just went straight to fax,β she laughed. βSo he thought I gave him a fake number or something.β
However, the βBatman & Robinβ star also revealed that she and Savage, 49, have βsince corrected the situationβ in the more than 30 years since they first met.
Meanwhile, Savage was not the only βThe Wonder Yearsβ actor Silverstone hit it off with during her one-episode appearance on the show.
She and Josh Saviano, who portrayed Kevinβs best friend, Paul Pfeiffer, on all six seasons of the ABC coming-of-age comedy, also became βvery good friends.β
βI donβt know how our exchange of numbers worked, but that worked,β Silverstone shared.
Elsewhere during her interview with the outlet, the βBlast From the Pastβ star discussed Peacockβs upcoming βCluelessβ reboot series.
Although Silverstone admitted that she βnever thoughtβ about doing a revival of the 1995 classic, she is confident the new show will βhonorβ the original movie.Β
βItβs very early stages,β she shared. βIβm obviously excited. I never thought that was something that I would ever do because I wouldnβt wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much.β
βWe will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it,β Silverstone added. βThatβs the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.β
Silverstone previously took to social media to express her excitement after the βCluelessβ reboot seriesΒ was officially announced back in April.
βTotally bugginββ¦ in the best way,β she wrote onΒ InstagramΒ at the time.
The βY2Kβ actress also said that she βcanβt waitβ to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz after three decades.
βI canβt wait to step back into Cherβs skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because sheβs evolved,β Silvertone, who is serving as an executive producer, told Entertainment Weekly.
βThis is 2025, sheβs not wearing the new stuff unless itβs sustainable or vegan,β she added. βWeβll have to see how far we can go with that.β
