But before βAnora,β which is nominated for six Academy Awards, the actress had starred in a series of hit franchises, including βScream.β

She called the drama her βintroduction to acting, my college,Β my film school, really everythingβ while talking to the Cut in January.
Her film resume stacked up, taking on the role of Susan βSadieβ Atkins, a member of the Manson Family, inΒ Quentin Tarantinoβs 2019 hitΒ βOnce Upon a Time . . . in HollywoodβΒ and in the 2024 TV miniseriesΒ βLady in the Lake.β
By 2022, the star had joined the βScreamβ franchise as Amber Freeman inΒ βScream.β
She became Ghostface in the fifth slasher film and killed one of the franchiseβs OG characters, Dewey Riley (David Arquette).
βI have to be honest, when I did the film, it sounds naive, but I wasnβt so aware of the huge fan base that the franchise has, that Iβve now been able to discover,β Madison toldΒ Collider in 2024. ββScreamβ and horror fans and people who love horror films are the best people ever, but I really naively went into it.β
How was Mikey Madison cast in βAnoraβ?
Writer and directorΒ Sean Baker saw Madison in βOnce Upon a Timeβ¦ in Hollywoodβ and wrote the screenplay forΒ βAnoraβ with Madison in mind.
Baker also cast her in the role without an audition, which worked out, as Madison was already a fan of his.
βI said βyesβ evenΒ before I read the script,β she told the Cut. βI knew whatever he created was something I would want to be a part of.β
βAnoraβ follows a young woman from Brooklyn who gets her chance to leave the strip club where she works when she meets and marries the son of a Russian oligarch. But when the news reaches Russia, her fairytale comes crashing down when her husbandβs parents try to get the marriage annulled.
For the role, Madison learned how to pole dance and speak Russian.
βIβve made friends who are dancers,β Madison added about preparing for the role. βI wanted every aspect of Aniβs career and what she does to be realisticβbut also, thatβs not her entire life;Β thatβs just her job.β
And when it came to playing Ani, the young starlet told Vanity Fair in November: βI feel very different personally and physically to her in every way butΒ I related to her hopefulnessΒ a little bit. It felt like I was constantly exerting so much energy to get to the places that she was in.β
Whatβs next for Mikey Madison?
For Madison, playing Anora has been βgenuinely life-changing,β
However, the award-winning performer isnβt looking to rush into her next gig.
βI think that Iβm being very thoughtful about the next job I choose for many different reasons,β she explained to Dazed.Β βI know who I amΒ as an actor and an artist now. I know how I want to feel making a movie. Iβve been lucky to have every job that Iβve had, but I want to feelβeven just a little bitβthe way I felt making Seanβs movie on my next.
βSo itβs important for me to be in love with the character. Itβs an emotional job that Iβm doing, and so Iβm waiting for something that really speaks to me. Thatβs what Iβve been thinking about, and right now Iβm still waiting for that.β
