Everyone is about to learn how talented Jon Batiste is.

The 38-year-old multi-hyphenate performer will sing the national anthem at the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans this Sunday.

Batiste’s performance will kick off the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in his native Louisiana. This marks his first appearance at the Super Bowl as a performer.

He follows in Reba McEntire’s footsteps, who sang the national anthem at the 2024 Super Bowl.

The other 2025 Super Bowl performers include Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty, who are singing “America the Beautiful,” Ledisi, who is performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and Kendrick Lamar, who is headlining the halftime show.

Last month, Batiste told Entertainment Tonight that he wants his Super Bowl performance to last “the test of time.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Jon Batiste.

Jon Batiste is a singer

Batiste’s career as a singer began after he attended Juilliard School in New York. Batiste and some of his peers formed the band Stay Human and they performed jazz on the streets of New York. In 2015, they became the house band on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

In 2020, Batiste’s star brightened when he participated in a Juneteenth celebration in Brooklyn, New York. He performed on the steps of the Brooklyn Public Library with jazz pianist Matt Whitaker.

That same year, Batiste composed the score for the Pixar animated movie “Soul,” which earned him Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy awards.

Batiste has released six studio albums, nine EPs and three collaborative albums. He’s collaborated with Prince, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Lenny Kravitz, Lana Del Rey and more stars over the years.

“Music keeps me young,” the musician said in a 2021 interview about his career with People.

Jon Batiste has won 7 Grammys

Batiste won five Grammys at the 2022 award ceremony alone. He took home prizes for Album of the Year (for “We Are”), Best Music Video (for “Freedom”), Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media (for “Soul”), and Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song (both for “Cry”).

“Man, it’s so much I’m still processing,” he later said on Colbert’s show about winning Album of the Year. “First, I thought the fact that my family was there with me to witness that is incredible. It’s incredible. Just so much went into that moment: piano lessons, some civil rights marches.”

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Batiste won Best Music Film (for his documentary “American Symphony”) and Best Song Written for Visual Media (for “It Never Went Away”).

Jon Batiste is also an actor

Some of Batiste’s acting credits include “Saturday Night,” the movie about the first episode of “SNL.” He played the role of musician Billy Preston and also composed the film’s score.

Batiste also appeared in the 2023 remake of “The Color Purple” alongside Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson and Danielle Brooks.

Jon Batiste is married

Batiste has been married to journalist, musician and best-selling author Suleika Jaouad since February 2022. They met as teenagers at band camp and reconnected 12 years later when Jaouad, 36, was getting treatment for leukemia.

Jaouad was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at age 22. She beat the disease — only to reveal in December 2021 that it had returned.

“When I got the biopsy results, it felt like a sinkhole opened up and swallowed everything,” she wrote in a newsletter at the time. “Within 72 hours, Jon and I packed our things, found friends to care for Oscar and Loulou, gave copies of our keys to our neighbor, canceled work and cleared our schedules, and were on our way to the hospital in New York City.”

Jaouad became cancer-free again after getting a bone marrow transplant.

However, she confirmed in December 2024 that she had cancer for the third time.

Batiste and Jaouad both skipped the 2025 Grammys because of her health, but they shared a selfie on Instagram reacting to their documentary “American Symphony” — which explores the couple’s relationship and Jaouad’s cancer battle — winning two Grammys.

“We couldn’t make it to the ceremony but we’re beaming love from our couch to yours, and sending gratitude to all who made this film possible,” the couple’s caption read.
