Sheinelle Jones is speaking out following the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh. The “Today” show co-host shared a post on her official Instagram account shortly after her colleagues announced the news on-air.
“Thank you, for all of your love and support,” Jones, 47, wrote to her followers on Friday.
Ojeh, whose full name was Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh, died at 45 after a battle with cancer.
The message also included the video of her NBC family addressing Ojeh’s death.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Savannah Guthrie said on the program.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person,” Guthrie, 53, continued. “We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Guthrie revealed the news alongside Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Calvin Melvin, Carson Daly and Dylan Dreyer.
Jones and Ojeh met while studying at Northwestern University. After dating for eight years, Ojeh proposed at their alma mater. They tied the knot in 2007 and share three kids together — 14-year-old Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche.
Jones has not appeared on the “Today” show since December 2024, noting at the time that she was tending to a family health matter.
“Hi everybody … I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” Jones wrote in a Jan. 15 Instagram statement. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
She continued: “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle.”
It’s still unclear how long Ojeh was sick and when he passed away.
On Friday, Jones’ NBC colleagues noted that she “relied on her friends” during the difficult time.
Jones “is always smiling [and] a bright light whenever she walks into the room, even through this,” Dreyer, 43, said. “She relied on her faith.”
Jenna Bush Hager agreed, noting that Jones “found the grace in the grief, which is not easy” and she still “has her humor.”
“There is nobody funnier than Sheinelle,” Hager, 43, added.
Guthrie concluded: “Sheinelle is a warrior and Uche is a warrior. She has risen to the occasion and then some.”
