Bad blood where?
Taylor Swift supported former rival Katy Perry by dancing and singing along to Perry’s Video Vanguard Award performance of her greatest hits at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday night.
Swift, 34, also had a viral reaction during Perry’s acceptance speech, where the “Roar” singer, 39, declared that the LGBTQ+ community has taught her “that you can be both kind and c–t.”
Swift opened her mouth in shock at Perry’s comment, as seen in a video from the award show.
In another video taken from behind Swift, she could be seen turning to her collaborator Jack Antonoff, who was sitting down next to her.
Swift smiled at Antonoff, 40, who pointed at the “Style” singer. She then nodded her head at Antonoff before turning her attention back towards Perry’s speech.
Swift had the time of her life during Perry’s epic performance. She danced along to Perry’s hit songs like “Teenage Dream” with her pal Suki Waterhouse.
Of course, Swift and Perry have a checkered past that dates back to the release of Swift’s 2014 song “Bad Blood,” which fans have always believed is a diss track about Perry.
In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Swift didn’t name Perry, but said the song was about a fellow female pop star.
“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Swift said. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”
Swift then noted that the unnamed industry peer “basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
The pair eventually buried the hatchet, and Perry even appeared in Swift’s video for “You Need To Calm Down” in 2019.
The following year, Perry went on the Howard Stern Show and addressed reconciling with Swift.
“What I’m so grateful for is we did get to make up publicly and got to be an example of redemption for young girls,” the “Dark Horse” singer said. “I always wanted the best for her and now we can talk about the best we want for each other.”
Earlier this year, Perry attended Swift’s Eras Tour show in Sydney, Australia and even danced along to “Bad Blood.”
The women also reunited backstage and took a selfie together. “Got to see an old friend shine tonight,” Perry captioned the Instagram photo.
