Okay, so you’re a rocket scientist.
Shania Twain has revealed whether she has “beef” with Brad Pitt for using his name in her 1997 hit “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
“We’ve never met,” Twain, 60, said during an appearance on Australia’s “Will & Woody” radio show Monday. “I mean, there’s a lot of Hollywood celebrities I’ve never met.”
However, the Canadian singer-songwriter joked that Pitt, 61, “must be impressed” with her because “that leopard print chick can chop wood and use a chainsaw.”
“Move your own fallen tree out of the road!” Twain, who grew up in the wilderness of rural Ontario, quipped. “I don’t know, maybe he’ll think of me if that ever happens to him. ‘Oh, maybe, I’d better call Shania and ask her how to do this.’”
The five-time Grammy winner and the “Fight Club” star’s “beef” started in the late 90s when Twain name-dropped Pitt in the lyrics of the hit single of her “Come On Over” record.
“OK, so you’re Brad Pitt?” she sang. “That don’t impress me much.”
Nearly 28 years later, Twain explained why she included that line in “That Don’t Impress Me Much” while chatting on “Will & Woody.”
“I was thinking, okay, everybody in the world is in love with Brad Pitt right now. There were nude photos of him, and everybody was gaga over that,” she recalled. “And I’m thinking, okay, if there is anyone that is making an impression on everyone…and that’s why I picked on him.”
“You’d think by now, he’s okay,” Twain added. “He certainly doesn’t have to try very hard. I’m sure he’s got a pretty good sense of humor.”
The “You’re Still the One” singer previously discussed how Pitt’s name was chosen for her hit song during an interview with Spotify in 2017.
“You want to know the truth about this story? I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now,” she shared for the first time. “I remember I had a girlfriend visiting me, and it was near Christmas, and we were baking cookies.”
“I was writing this album, and there was a scandal of [Pitt] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there were naked photos of him,” Twain added. “This was like all the rage.”
The “Seven” star had sued Playgirl for publishing paparazzi photos of him naked in the magazine’s August 1997 edition, per The New York Times.
A judge ultimately ordered the magazine not to deliver any more copies of that edition, per the outlet, but didn’t order the recall of magazines already sent to subscribers.
“I just thought, I don’t know what all the fuss is about,” Twain continued. “I’m like, well, that don’t impress me much, I mean, what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought.”
“I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt,” she clarified. “But that was just the association in that moment, and things we make a fuss about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”
As for Pitt, he later addressed the song lyric after Twain replaced his name with Ryan Reynolds’ during a performance at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards.
“I think we can share the wealth there,” the “Bullet Train” star said one month later during a press junket. “Ryan’s a good egg, too. He deserves some love.”
“I think they oughta pass it on down, and next time she oughta sing it to Austin Butler,” Pitt joked. “Maybe Leo [DiCaprio] in between and then Austin Butler.”
